Outsiders won't consider making any efforts to restore that shydthole until after they get tired of celebrating it's removal. That in itself might take a generation or two.

That’s a good point.. You know, people say minds never get changed on forums like this- but i think my opinion on preppers might be evolving.. Like when my sister homeschooled her kids in the early 2000s and everyone said she was crazy; i dont have kids but if i did id never send them to regular school, what with mass shootings seemingly occurring every day .. Since i think there’s a decent chance of nuclear warfare in my lifetime, the preppers might be on the somehting .

Ole boy across the street from me is a prepper. Good thing we are buddies.

The death toll would be stunning in NYC…BUT like I’ve said before whomever fired that nuke would be destroyed in a matter of mins. The whole country. I really don’t think any country is stupid enough to even try it anyway know what would happen to them.

Hopefully you have something to offer or you’re stuck outside

wouldn't give a damn. If a nuke hits NYC
I would feel cheated that SF, LA, Austin, Portland, & Seattle weren’t allowed the same reset option.

I was a CBRNE officer in the Army. It all depends on how large (kilo ton) the weapon was. Also depends on wind and other factors. The army and marines have teams to deal with this. It would actually be difficult to pull off. Most likely is a dirty bomb… which is a traditional bomb attached to a radiation source. In that case it would depend on the size of the source.

I know we should include almost all of our metropolitan areas in the south, but my heart cant bear the thought of an attack on my beloved dixie. That would require the absolute removal for all eternity of the society that attacked my homeland, even though those parts may be full of the people that annoy me.

If any country sent nukes hitting the United States, it would involve New York City, Washington DC, and Los Angeles.

Modern nuclear warheads aren’t atomic bombs, they’re thermonuclear or hydrogen bombs. There are 2 kinds of radiation from these. Initial radiation within the shockwave which is largely gamma radiation. It deteriorates rapidly and once 5 miles from the epicenter will reach 1 roentgen. Once fission reactions cease this radiation disappears. If you’re close enough for a lethal dose of this you were incinerated instantly anyways.
The 2nd is radioactive fallout from radiated materials and soil from the fission reaction itself. This is minimized if the warhead is detonated above the target rather than on impact.
Basically radiation isn’t a huge problem unless the bomb detonates on impact
Not a single upvote for one of the few truths in this thread.
USAs missile defense capabilities are unreal and unmatched. No one with any inkling of our modern capability would dare. Being afraid of Russia or China is 5 years ago and drinking the fear Kool aid.
A dirty bomb on the other hand is a very real and present threat.
In the end the only thing that will bring down the USA is the USA.

I think Houston would be on that list more than L.A.

Why even pontificate on this ? As mentioend earlier, the likelihood that ‘only’ NYC gets attacked is zero percent.. Nuking NYC would set off a global destruction, guaranteed .. So those who are saying we’d have bigger problems if NYC got nuked, are correct .
I don’t know if people actually believe there’s a way to survive a limited attack but you all need to completely operate as if there is zero percent chance life on earth continues. It’s over. One nuke and the entire world will be consumed in nuclear flames within hours.
There is no way any country on this planet can use a nuclear weapon without thousands of atomic missiles being airborne over the globe almost immediately.

At least someone understands what the OP's actual question was.

From a global standpoint, every major institution in NYC will have a disaster recovery site in the country side or even in other countries for immediate continuation of operations. Theoretically there wouldn’t be as big a drop off as you’d expect

Gotta know when to hold em and when to fold em. Know when to walk away and when to run. If a nuke hit NYC nukes hit everywhere. Civilization will have to go through generations before the port cities are rebuilt. I’d anticipate nuclear winters and centuries of change before “normal” returns.

I'll bet there's a strong likelihood that any Russian general given the order to nuke NYC will tell Putin to get fricked. That would just be the first volley of mutually assured destruction. I think Putin is in poor health and probably DGAF, but it's going to be a tough sell to get the military to condemn themselves, their families, and their country to death.

I heard rumors that Putin has cancer and he is being advised by this guy, Alexander Dugin, who believes in Armageddon for Russia to be the only one standing.

Doesn't matter who the advisors are. It takes the military to launch the missles and I think you'd be more likely to see a military coup. Putin doesn't just have a button sitting on his desk. Any general that pushed the button would do so knowing that he, his family, and over 90% of his countrymen would be dead within hours.
