New York- weeks/months to find all the dead. 4 to 6 years for clean up 8 to 10 years to rebuild

I do know this unless you start fresh with a new local government, it could take decades to rebuild. Just look at the time it took to rebuild the World Trade Center, and they even downsized the redevelopment.

There’s no recovery from a nuke hit in the modern world. If NYC was first, Moscow/Beijing would be likely simultaneously next, followed by Los Angeles, then London/Berlin/Paris, etc. That’s all folks. That’s why all this ratcheting up bullshite needs to stop like yesterday.

The current society is even more fragile than that.

Even if it’s only New York that gets nuked, the U.S. would take such a shock to its system that I don’t know if we could survive.

The effect of Wall Street and all of the major corporations that are in NY and are the heartbeat of our financial system would be in ruins.

Banks would be so impacted that I doubt people would be able to access their digital assets.

The shipping issues that we saw during Covid would be child’s play compared to the upheaval of New York being wiped out.

The emotional toll on our extremely fragile youth would show quickly how soft and non-resilient our nation truly is. We have already seen a massive decline in overall competency in all fields.

So, add on top of that the military response we would try to muster with our diminished military, and then the likelihood of additional bombs.

I just don’t see the nation surviving such an attack.

The mutually assured destruction game plan for a nuclear war is to make certain no one will survive it. That is why if we ever have one, it will begin with a strike by some 100% crazy military force.

And the insane thing is, with MAD on the table, the ONLY way for the world to win, in any sort of way, is to not engage in MAD after the first strikes.

No retaliatory nuclear strikes. Hell no immediate retaliation at all. Capitulation even, possibly.

At least in that scenario, there's still a chance at long term survival for a large portion of humanity. A chance that cooler heads might prevail and wrest control of the world destroyers from the nuclear madmen.

If retaliatory strikes begin, the US might as well drop nukes on all its own major cities, just to spare its people from the hell that would come with nuclear devastation.
Because they are going to be dooming them all the same.

The thin veneer of civilization will shatter as nuclear winter descends and survivors starve and turn on each other for what little uncontaminated resources remain.

Petty tyrants will sit upon bone thrones, and to dine at the banquet of death will be the order of the day.

Sometimes the only real shot at survival is to put your gun down and surrender, or else risk blowing all to hell.

It will never be rebuilt. This country is no longer capable of making the steel and doing anything complex on a large scale.

Plus it would be lifetimes before it’s safe to live or work there.

They would be doing us a favor. Why would we want “recovery efforts”?

Good short story

Correct me if I’m wrong, but those recovery efforts were in a time when people didn’t know the effects of radiation.

The atomic bombs were detonated above ground and resulted in very little radioactive fallout.

Modern nuclear warheads aren’t atomic bombs, they’re thermonuclear or hydrogen bombs. There are 2 kinds of radiation from these. Initial radiation within the shockwave which is largely gamma radiation. It deteriorates rapidly and once 5 miles from the epicenter will reach 1 roentgen. Once fission reactions cease this radiation disappears. If you’re close enough for a lethal dose of this you were incinerated instantly anyways.

The 2nd is radioactive fallout from radiated materials and soil from the fission reaction itself. This is minimized if the warhead is detonated above the target rather than on impact.

Basically radiation isn’t a huge problem unless the bomb detonates on impact

Why even pontificate on this ? As mentioend earlier, the likelihood that ‘only’ NYC gets attacked is zero percent.. Nuking NYC would set off a global destruction, guaranteed .. So those who are saying we’d have bigger problems if NYC got nuked, are correct .

A fusion/hydrogen bomb like Castle Bravo or the Tsar Bomb (15-50 megatons) would be much more devastating.

Fusion bombs are pretty clean radiation wise. They produce more raw destruction and power but less radiation. Fission reactions produce more fallout than Fusion reactions

It would be terrible if they hit New York and not Washington DC too

Follow up the nuke attack with a thorough carpet bombing. Bulldoze and build a prison to incarcerate and execute all the guilty treasonous democrats now destroying the USA.

wtf kind of nuke is that? I don't think modern airburst nukes spread that much radiation.

If we get hit by nukes and assuming we aren’t completely destroyed you’ll want to be a person with guns in a rural area and be able to be self sufficient for at least 5 years and hope that civilization is restored rather than fall into anarchy

From what i understand- and someone tell me if im wrong- but nuclear weapons travel so fast that , once youre warned the bomb will hit your area, you will only have like 5 minutes to get out the way .

I have no clue, I was just looking at images on google on how much of New York would be destroyed if they were hit by a nuke.

This.

The financial markets would tank, and bedlam would ensue.

Prepper’s wouldn’t look so crazy then.
