I might go next time. Last time my kids were in school; now they're grown and moved a couple hours away. I would be very happy with a house on a hill in lower Alabama and my company has an office in Mobile.

I survived the GF02016 in BR.
Didn't rebuild. Sold as is. Had to live with friends for five months.
I'd probably consider leaving for good if my home were destroyed again. Wouldn't be definite, though.

The feds were more than happy to pump money into New Orleans following Katrina because much of the flooding could be blamed on the ACOE's negligence. If a major storm hits the right way and leads to overtopping of the lake levees, that ain't going to happen to that extent and there will be much less sympathy across the nation to help the city rebuild.

If another one hits, and we are wiped out, I always said we would move back to Katy. Not so sure about that now. The MetroPlex gets tornados, snow, and Cowboys fans. Same for Atlanta, except Falcons fans. Most places in the SE US, you need to deal with hurricanes or twisters. I have no desire to live up north or the midwest. West coast, I'd lose my mind dealing with the liberal stupidity. However, I can't imagine putting my young daughters through a rebuilding process.
There are towns, small cities and really good people in northern Alabama, most of Tennessee, and much of Kentucky. The Piedmont of the states bordering the Atlantic is full of people who are decent and more law abiding than you are used to. You'd be welcomed.

And the 9th ward I think. Good press.
To be honest, when is enough enough, wether it be rain, quakes, forest fires, floods, etc....

If Mitch is the mayor when the big one hits, NOLA is done.

Not having to deal with all the ghetto people that were bused to Houston had to have been a plus.

I'm done regardless. I'm out of this place the first chance I get.

I've been done. House was flooded by Andrew, moved and the second house was destroyed by Katrina. Compounded by what this city has to offer...I'm only in my twenties, about to finish my masters in construction management in December, getting married in January...after that I will be actively pursuing opportunities outside of here.

The key to enjoying New Orleans is to think of it not as a poorly-run American city-- but as a really well-run Caribbbean city...
