If another big one hit New Orleans, would you be done?

I for one would be done. For good. I just don't think I have enough in me to rebuild again. Once in a lifetime is enough. We were evacuated for 6 weeks, then for the next year it was like living in a third world country. Looking for groceries, looking for gas, wondering about schools...
Hassles of dealing with insurance companies, trying to find contractors.
I am not from here (wife is), and I am just not invested enough in this place to help rebuild it again. Not when another one is inevitable. It's only a matter of time until this place is no more.

Come on up this way Slip. Hurricane free up here. We do have tornadoes and a few tremors occasionally but hey, Eve fricked up the garden of Eden so paradise is lost.

You're a transplant. My SO is a native New Orleanian and it's her greatest regret that circumstances prevent her from living there at the moment. Even with all the dysfunction, it's her home. I don't understand it, either, but it is what it is.

If another one hits, and we are wiped out, I always said we would move back to Katy.
Not so sure about that now.
The MetroPlex gets tornados, snow, and Cowboys fans. Same for Atlanta, except Falcons fans. Most places in the SE US, you need to deal with hurricanes or twisters. I have no desire to live up north or the midwest. West coast, I'd lose my mind dealing with the liberal stupidity.
However, I can't imagine putting my young daughters through a rebuilding process.

I'm from NO, now living in BR. I had a lot invested in what NO was. I have nothing invested in what the city is now.

It is so hard to take a New Orleans girl out of New Orleans.

Depends. Are you done with crappy threads?

Hearing a lot of this as the hits keep coming. News was saying it might be out of our hands if voted on. Probably would look elsewhere, maybe, cause insurances would go up again.

If the culcha isn't enough to make you gtfo of NO, then nothing will.

I'm already done with New Orleans.

If a big one hit NOLA this year, it would be critically impacted beyond expectations because of the weakened, damaged and unrepaired infrastructure.
Levees may prevent water from entering NOLA, but removing rain water can be the problem.
I'd be done because the city would have to rebuild its infrastructure beyond the disaster recovery efforts.

What do you mean if? It is going to happen. The best thing you can do is be prepared for it the best way you see fit.

Well to be honest. New Orleans is better off now than it was before Katrina.

I would have never put myself in there to be hit a first time.

I'd be much more worried about bees disappearing at an alarming rate.
