First search warrant for his phone records between Nov 12 - Nov 14 was on Dec 23rd which led to more extensive search warrant back to June also granted on the 23rd. His DNA sample (or father’s) wasn’t recovered from family trash until Dec 27th with results back on 28th.

It’s easier to work backwards from a suspect, but the wording of affidavit makes me wonder why more wasn’t done between when WSU police got both license plates, name, and DL info early AM on Nov 29th and when he left for Pennsylvania.

Affidavit says pic & measurements on DL including eyebrows were close enough to description from roommate, vehicle year expanded to include 2015, video from WSU and Pullman showing a 2014 to 2016 Elantra leaving campus and traveling towards the main road going to Moscow at 2:53am and back in Pullman after 5:25am morning of murders, PA only required back license plate which car had until Nov 18th (with 2 plates noted by WSU police after midnight on Nov 29th), ticket in area covered by cell tower back in August which got his phone number, knowledge that phones turned off or left for planned crimes, his major, his reddit survey questions, and so on with little on when actually investigated by Moscow group. Outside of maybe the videos of vehicle in Pullman showing enough gap for murders (since no date when sent or received on affidavit) the above was there to investigate for almost 2 weeks before he left but most likely done after he left for PA or already in PA (which was then probably used to get first search warrant for phone records on Dec 23rd).

I know there were a lot of cars submitted (less before public request on Dec 7th), but it seems like from at least Nov 29th or 30th he should have been high up on list to interview and start looking to get phone records for days around murders, which didn’t take his DNA and also quickly led to a second more extensive search warrant getting phone records from start of summer later the same day.
