I know it’s just a figure of speech, but has anyone considered the actual effects of having ice in your veins?

Severe hypothermia is defined as having an internal body temp of less than 85° F. Your body can’t survive more than 45-60 minutes at that temp.

Now imagine if your veins were filled with ice (below 32° F). You’d drop dead in minutes. Not to mention the potential blockage of blood flow, which is far more dangerous.

This is really what you're thinking about on a Monday morning?

Am I supposed to be thinking about quantum physics or something?

It is entirely too early on a Monday to be this high.

Yes, I was very much aware that death was near if my veins had actual ice in them.

What about when they say "He's on fire!" like if you are shooting good. That could kill you or at least scar you for life.

It would not take minutes. You would not have the opportunity to die from hypothermia, you would die of blood poisoning first.

What if you’re “cold-blooded”? which I believe is where the saying comes from

Some flames burn as low as 100° F. However, the chemicals involved would likely frick you up.

After a half Ironman back in 2018 I passed out in the post race tent and was brought to the med tent. My body temp was incredibly low (caused by dehydration) but even though they had fluids on hand they couldn't give me an IV because they had no way to warm the fluid and they didnt want to drop my body temp anymore.

shite got scary for a while as I was in & out of consciousness, really unable to formulate a thought much less speak that thought, freezing my arse off with temps easily in the mid 80s. Eventually a doctor put the bag in the sun and "guessed" when he thought it was warm enough to give to me
