The US Navy and Air Force can definitely shoot them out of the sky...

Not with a 100% success rate

And we only have so many missiles to do this with. If Russia did decide to unload their entire nuclear arsenal then some are definitely getting through.

Not 100% true. The Aegis system can do it, but the ships and the interceptor missiles have to be in the right places.

I’m probably the 30th person to bring up Annie Jacobson, but everyone needs to understand the reality of the situation. Don’t live in fear, but know it could happen.

That’s if they work properly. Russia doesn’t have the best tech

People say this but how do we know this is a fact? Seems kinda arrogant on our end to think this is the case

Mid-stage they're moving at 15k mph, I assume the MIRVs are moving somewhat slower than that.

OP must not have grown up in the 80s. Jane's Defence Report was required reading for this elementary school kid back then. Every year, looking at what the Soviets pointed at us,

Seriously. And missed all those great B movies centered around anti-communism.

The “break glass” option is to detonate our own nukes in the atmosphere as the MIRVs are re-entering

Joey let China locate the ground based icbms down to the inch. He might have also sold China a way to locate our subs, we don’t know.

Zero defense works both ways.

Also, not so sure a few EMPs over the U.S. wouldnt' do more damage than a dozen nukes hitting their target. Our society would go to absolute shite in 24 hours. I'm talking nasty shite.

It definitely should. Mutually Assured Destruction is what has prevented nukes from being dropped ever since more than one country could make them

The part that got me was the speed in which it would get here. Just didn't compute until listening to the info presented in that video.

We are sitting right off of their coast, and they know it. Lurking...ready at a moment's notice.

A US Navy Ohio-class submarine, like those carrying Trident missiles, can carry up to 24 Trident II D5 missiles. While originally designed for 24, some have been deactivated under treaty obligations, leaving each submarine with a maximum of 20 missiles. (we would NEVER cheat)

A Trident II D5 missile is designed to carry up to 12 multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) warheads. However, current treaties and agreements limit this to an average of four or five warheads per missile. (once again, we would NEVER cheat)

I’d imagine the vast majority of those with Ukraine flags in their profile are in the same boat as you were until last night.

lolwut

I would bet it's the ones who think Putin isn't a threat that are in the same boat he was in. Putin is a threat to Ukraine, Putin is a threat to Europe, and Putin is a threat to us. Ukraine, OTOH, is a threat to no one.

I know a guy that is a Ground Test Director for US Missile Command. I assure you we can intercept ICBMs.

Intercepting the missile isn't the issue - except there is little time. The issue is intercepting all the re-entry vehicles.

Went down the rabbit hole on videos last night...Had no idea...Russia can send over a nuclear ICBM and hit DC in less than 24 minutes...There are some that can do it in less than 10 minutes that they are working on. We have ZERO way of defending ourselves against them. Nothing to shoot these out the sky effectively. Good Lord!

Hoenstly if it hits D.C. directly, I wouldnt be that upset.

As long as the president and stuff were away, I wouldnt shed one tear.

It would probably solve more problems that create at this point.
