The extra “N” is for Nautical North.

You have to divide true North by the “common log” to get Nautical North.

I swear, I thought you weather nerds were smart

Do that. Don't "backfeed" into the house, especially if you're new to generator use.

Also, keep that thing as far away from the windows and house as possible.

I need my husband to do that for me in the event that I ever need to be the one to handle the generator.

it is south of Tampa, even if it's not south of Tampa by very much, Tampa would be in more of an offshore flow (hurricanes rotate counter-clockwise). Meaning the winds would be blowing more offshore than onshore. So water would be pushed outward rather than being piled in.

From an earlier post, similar thing happened in Slidell LA (lake ponchartrain).

West eyewall passed right over which in turn tried to push all the water out of the lake through the Rigolets very fast. Result was like aiming a hose stream into a funnel. Nowhere for the water to go except over land.

Not sure if Tampa Bay would be similarly affected

This is my plan on the generator use. Our houses are extremely close together.. My neighbor has a natural gas generator built it his house. I have run a heavy duty extention cord from his outlet to inside my house. If the power goes out during the storm, I will connect that cord to my fridge. Once the storm is over and the rain is gone, I will fire my 6500 generator up on my Lanai, remove the cord from his outlet and plug it into my generator. Run it about 5hours at a time, turn it off for a few hours. I have
very few frozen things, mostly things in the fridge

N is 0
E is 90
NE is 45
NNE is about 22.5
NNNE is about 11.25 which is about the direction of motion

Or you could cut the connections to his house and run your house off his generator. Dick move maybe, but if he evacuated it should be fair game.

If thats all you're running, !) you don't need a 6500 and 2) just keep the chord plugged into is, you're not pulling much from his whole home gen.
