Forecast to make landfall around 2am Friday. Why the hell do these big ones always seem to hit in the middle of the night. Makes it much worse for reporting, evacuating, rescue, etc.
God Be with those in Florida in the path

I have a cousin who is a Captain with the Tampa FD. His station is right on the bay. I reckon he'll be busy for the next few days. My uncle and aunt moved to Land O' Lakes from SELA after Ida last year. I guess the big hurricanes are following them.

I’m in far north Cape Coral. None of my neighbors put up any shutters this weekend and everyone seems like they are all waiting til tomorrow to make any decisions on what to do next. All the stores are bone dry though.

We don't say that word here...
But yes, any slowing of the storm would not be good.
shite ton more rain, flooding, and the cumulative effects of wind for an extended period of time. Not sure how surge would be affected.
Both Euro and GFS models show this slow down unfortunately.

Currently at Disney. Plan to leave Wednesday. Should we bounce a day early?

What struck me this morning was the agreement of the GFS and Euro models and the slow movement as Ian approaches the FL coast. Looks to be a Wed through Saturday event for the FL peninsula.
Yeah, one thing about it weakening before landfall is that it will also slow down and the wind fields will expand. So while the worst winds won’t be as high, hurricane conditions may last longer and cover a larger area with a weaker hurricane.

For those of you in the path of this storm here is some hard learned advice. If you leave empty for freezer/fridge. Video everything on your property in detail. Take with you what is important if you evacuate. If you stay you best have a generator and enough fuel for at least a week or more. Once the storm passes video all the damage in detail. Do not throw out belongings or structure until the first adjuster walks your property. Get everything in writing and make a detailed list. The insurance companies look for the weak and ill prepared to mess with. If they get the picture that you are organized and strong will you will get a better outcome.

Thats not how it works but if you can't document what you are claiming then yes it is a longer process.

Yes if you are able to document what is being claimed and do the math for them it is a much smoother process.

Floridians, remember, if it's not a note, let it float.

Crazy. This thing is going right between Cuba and the Yucatán and will be at 140 mph in 48 hours. It’ll be a beast by the end of today.

You don't have to. Not for this one. Well, let me clarify. As right now, you don't have to leave. If the models strat to shift west, that may change.

I have a friend who lives in Cape Coral south of Veterans, near Country Club Dr. I'm not sure where that is relative to you. Cape Coral is a big place. He's not an alarmist by a long shot, but yesterday he was getting patio furniture picked up and his boat squared away. He's concerned about this storm, particularly the potential storm surge.
His house was pretty much brand new when Charley came to town. It wasn't a pleasant experience for him.
Hope Ian passes without causing too much trouble for you. Good luck!

I don’t think I would have plans to leave yet. Ian would need to slow down and take a swing West to impact PSJ to the point of evacuations. Obviously keep an “eye” on it and have a contingency plan, but don’t use up resources or hotel rooms that people in the path will need
