My go to poop spot when on the road. Screw the BP station, the Drury Inn has a comfy clean restroom.

It is a safety issue I think. Easy to rob people in those motels. I know someone who was robbed at gunpoint at one.

Damn would be awesome. Geez last time I stayed at one was when I was 18 or so, and would get a room at one off 75 in richardson with my gf at the time. Ha

I remember my dad would drive until he was tired, so when it was time to look for the vacancy light in the middle of the night half asleep from the back seat was always and adventure. We stayed at some shady nasty places in some backwoods as towns with that gameplan. My mom had a motel duffle that she carried clean sheets to cover shite with. we couldnt touch anything else that she hadnt cleaned off with cleaner...you guessed it.....that she carried in her motel duffle. Ha...memories

Funny you should say this. Not 30 minutes ago, I was making my way across town and was surprised to see the high occupancy of the motels here. I don't know of any events going on in town that would draw people to the city and I know that business travelers almost always opt for hotels instead. I too like the convenience and nostalgia of a motel vs a hotel, but what I do not care for is that since the door opens directly to the outside, I often find mosquitos in the room or excessive dampness in the air.

One of my favorite motels is the rabbit ears motel right there on Lincoln avenue (main street running through town). The place is probably 70 years old and is not fancy, but is very well maintained. Two of my favorite features are (besides price) that it is directly adjacent to a damn fine trout river that also runs through town. If you get a room facing the river, you can walk out of your room directly into the river and be fishing for rainbows within 30 seconds. Another thing that I really like is that there are heated ceramic floors in the bathrooms...there is something very nice about getting up to take a piss and feeling a toasty warm floor under your feet when the ground outside is covered with snow.

Talking about it makes me want to schedule up a trip.

Quality inn in natchitoches is kinda like this. Every now and then I’ll have to spend the night in natchitoches for work and I’ll go cheap and stay there. Their pillows are amazing

Something like this would be nice.

You can't drive up to the room, but the Valley Ho in Scottsdale is pretty close. Historic property that was renovated a decade ago.

My brother and took a road trip up to Gettysburg to see the battle field. We stayed at different flea bag motels. One place I refused because there was a ring of dirt in the tub and the place was dirty as hell. Another place the bed caved in when you got in it..But in Gettysburg there was a place right out of a magazine. Perfect and clean and was able to park right outside the room.

Blue Swallow Motel in Tucumceri New Mexico on route 66 has a garage you can park in next to your postage stamp size room.....might not be able to fit a truck in there.

Used to love those places when we vacationed when I was a kid. Big thrill to see them advertise color TV on the sign

There is one in Donaldsonville. The sign might not be up there anymore, but if it has been removed, it was been within the last 10 years or some so. The last several times I went that way I didn't pay attention.. But it had/has a sign that says "color tv in each room"..

Monterey, CA has a lot of them still in use. Pretty nice, too.

Something about walking into that room with the cold air being pumped out of the window unit and that familiar smell of starch and cleaner of a nice, clean motel room. Nostalgia.
