Credible witnesses broke up the manslaughter and saw Ward kick the guy one last time so we know that ward killed the guy. The defenses argument was self defense but there’s no evidence of a knife being used only that the victim had a knife closed and clipped in his pocket. It hasn’t been stated in the thread by im going to assume that Ward was fingerprinted when booked and a cut on his hand would’ve been noticed there even if he was too drunk to give a decent statement at the scene.

Drunk bro in a perils polo slapping his girlfriend then beating a man to death is enough to get an entitled feel from a person. OP also gave us this detail from the scene that adds to it:
quote:

The last thing was ward asking the cop to let him go while headed to opp and the cop saying yo have no idea how serious this is.

Pretty sure anybody who lives in New Orleans is used to an urban environment. Man if this is what the average jury member in New Orleans is like I am glad I don’t live there.

Answered these questions in more detail I’m other posts but his story just didn’t add up and we felt like he overreacted because he was drunk, wasn’t used to being in urban environments, and had anger management issues.

I don’t know how you present evidence to those statements but the way he presented himself when he took the stand and his statements made him appear so. He said he’d gotten into a fight a few weeks earlier while drunk in Nola and felt the need to show us he had interactions with people of color before like when he played high school football. The football picture was him literally just lined up next to a black guy before running a play. It didn’t play well with us.

Those of us who thought it was murder thought so because he was in no danger when he decided to kick Jackson in the head a few times and those kicks are what led to his death.

Yes we watched the cops body cam footage many times. No bac that’s I’m aware of and he definitely was drunk on camera. Cops also testified that he was drunk and didn’t realize how serious the charges were. Ward asked the cop taking him to jail to just let him go at one point.

The detective testified that he never had belief there was a cut because ward refused medical care before going to jail and that they will not admit you to jail with open wounds and you have to go to UMC and since that didnt happen he had no reason to believe that he’d been cut by a knife. There was blood on his hand in the body worn camera video that they tried to use as proof of a knife cut but ward had wiped the blood off at some point and refused ems treatment. At the end for the trial we were able to see more of the video (they only let us watch very specific parts) and ar that point we saw more of his hand which made it look like a scrape from when he got thrown off of Jackson when the one guy broke up the fight.

was there actual evidence of the kicks to the head? Sorry but i'm not believing eye witnesses in New Orleans.
did the coroner come out and say there was physical evidence of kicks to the head?

Did they argue the fact that had the old man not been in such a weak and shitty condition at the time, that led to him dying where as a normal healthy adult would likely not have died from this incident?

ANd i'm not trying to give Garrett credit here. He's a dumbass that deserves punishment.
Just seems like his lawyer wasn't very good. the picture with black football players to show he hangs out with black people seems beyond dumb, as well as the getting stabbed in the hand claim. That's something i'd expect a 10 year old to use as an argument.

Yes the coroner, neurosurgeon that did the operation, and wards own expert witness (neurosurgeon) all said he died from the head trauma.

Defense did argue that but all three doctors said that the kick to the head was the first domino that led to his death.

What is your definition of urban environment that wouldn’t make Baton Rouge also an urban environment?

I would be extremely surprised if the trial judge let in this sort of evidence since it is wholly irrelevant.
