Also - I stay away from RyJ and Rocky Patel. Personal preference on the Rockys. RyJ are the most overrated cigars out there IMO.

This thread has me wanting a cigar this morning with my coffee.
Bourbon, scotch, beer all fine but a warm cup of coffee on a cool crisp morning watching the sun rise with a cigar is hard to beat

Don’t do it. You will look like a poser and smell like complete shite.

First, you will need a small humidor to start. Buy a travel humidor to start, to see if you like the hobby. Matches or a butane lighter only.
If you plan on smoking to be seen smoker, you are indeed a poser as one poster said, but if you could not care less about what others think, go for it. I've been smoking cigars on and off for a few years, and I maintain a good stock of boutique cigars - Crowned Heads, Illusione, Foundation, Warped, Southern Draw, etc. - but these are NOT for beginners. I am a pipe man mostly, and I tend to smoke pipes inside and cigars outside. I enjoy it regardless of what others think about what I enjoy. Folks at cigar shops can usually be good, but many are pretentious. In BR, Habana Port by far has the most knowledgable and friendly employees, and they will steer you right. Once you know what you like - good suggestions for starter sticks on this thread - buy online. You can also hit the cigar bid sites like Cigarbid.com and CigarAuctioneer.com, but CigarAuctioneer will send you the dreaded IRS letter with how much you bought this year. It's often depressing. Look for a good starters/collection set and then buy a brand/type/region only set, to further decide what you like. Then, work on what size cigar you prefer. It's a fun hobby, but one that non-smokers will NOT share.
Also, check out Kohnhed.com for the easily the funniest and most enjoyable cigar reviews on the net. His writing is hilarious, and as he was a session musician in the 60's and 70's, he has some great stories about music in that time period.

started out with milder cigars: Macanudo, Leon Jimenes, regular H. Upmann, Arturo Fuente with the red and green band 858 or Cuban Corona sizes, Romeo y Julieta 1875, Hoyo de Monterrey, Punch regular line are good starters. Cuesta Rey is another, CAO Gold.
This guy knows his stuff!!
I found Gran Habano Connecticut #1 cigars to be a nice smoke that won’t break the budget. Strongly second the Fuentes and Perdomo lines.

I haven't decided, but given all the things I've bought over the years, as compared to what I reported, I will try to delay anyone looking closer for as long as possible. Honestly, it really depends upon how much I owe as to whether I will pay it

Cigars can cause oral cancer.

The number of things that can cause cancer are staggering. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that being a fricking prick can cause it as well. Better watch it.

quote:yes, they can, but more often than not they don't. How,many people actually get to that point? Nice try, sod off.
