They pay peanuts. No one they have on air is good enough to get hired away to a bigger market. They also don't really have any competition when it comes to local talk.
I would imagine the commercials they sell duing Saints / LSU games allows them to pay all the bills including for cheap hosts. So what if the ratings are not good?
In other words, WWL has no incentive to change or improve.

I turned him off the day Rush Limbaugh died of cancer and Tucker said he deserved it due to some remarks he had made. Never listened to WWL since. He it a piece of crap.

Clear channel frequency with incredible reach.
New Orleans is a small radio market to begin with, and 870 has a monopoly.
There's other poorly-managed and underfunded stations here, but they're barely staying above water.

Poor Tommy is such a disappointment! WWL is a shadow of its former self and if it wasn’t for their coverage of the saints they would have no audience left. The vast majority of their listeners continue to listen out of habit alone. As far as Scoot goes, he is a low IQ moron trying to pass himself off as some righteous straight down the middle guy, but he is far from it. Ran into him at a function several months back, and he looks very sickly and was dressed like a 10 year old playing around in their grandmas old trunk of clothes in the attic!

They are catering to their audience. Orleans Parish is deep blue. Harris won it by 82%. And JP has a lot of Dems too. Harris got 42% there, and that was one of the main parishes that gave us JBE. It would make no business sense for them to have a bunch of conservative content.

Tommy and Scoot have both been on the air for fifty years (not all with wwl obviously) and there's no obvious successor in line. Talk about a gerontocracy.
What that tells me is that people under the age of 40 (maybe under 50) don't listen to talk radio. I guess the millennial version of Tommy and Scoot is cum town or red scare.
