re: I simply don’t understand these hardcore road cyclists

I do most of my riding on the Tammany Trace or Zwift because I don't trust drivers anymore. Too many people on their phones driving like a bat out of hell who can't wait 5 seconds to pass me safely. With that said, I also stop at stop signs and red lights, follow traffic laws, and stay to the right if possible, or take the lane if someone squeezing past me would be unsafe. I've seen lots of people doing none of those things and making a nuisance of themselves.

Same, cyclist that don't follow the rules of the road upset me. Though I do roll stops signs if there are no cars near.
That said, I wish cycling culture/infrastructure were better in Louisiana. No bike lanes and a large percentage of roads have no shoulder. Commuting by bike is almost impossible

The reason cyclists run lights and stop signs is because it's too much of an effort to stop and start up all over again. I know this because I did it for years.
And y’all wonder why we don’t like cyclists

I’ve been run off the road a bunch when there was plenty of space. As in I will be in the bike lane or as close to the edge of the road as possible and still had people who seemed like they were aiming for me. For that reason I bike either early in the morning or late at night.

I truly hope you don’t get hit by someone while running through a stop sign Mingo

I'm not saying i agree with him, I didn't see it in person, but those guys are typically training for an Ironman.
Their long bike days can take them 100 miles at peak, which means they have to ride on public roads. It's pretty much a necessity.
And as to wearing that goofy gear, you rider as you train, so you train in the gear you're riding in for the event.
I'm not saying there aren't a bunch of posers out there, but a lot of times, that guy you see is training for the event and that's his long ride.

If he had to go 1/2-2/3 the speed limit for a majority of his drive due to a cyclist and not the normal pattern of traffic, is it really his fault?
Yes b/c if you're not 15 min early you're late. This principal gives you ample time to get somewhere on time in the event a cyclist is going 1/2 the speed limit for the majority of the time.
With that said I hate cyclist on the road and don't think it should be legal, but until the legislative body agrees we have to accept it.

Mingo likes it because he can wear those gay shoes with the spikes. It makes him look like he's 5'6

I bet you get a free box of HIV prep meds with those shoes.

Mingo empathizes with them because he too is an obnoxious, self-absorbed c*nt.

I could be wrong but the ones I see have no mirrors.
Most don't have mirror but there plenty of options that fit on bar ends or attach to helmets. If we are talking about "hard core" cyclists whetever that actually is if they race they are far more aware of their surroundings than you would think. I am constantly looking through my legs when I am in the drops or in the hook and giving side glances when I am on the hoods.

I don’t understand the gay outfits. I get being aerodynamic when racing, but why does it matter when you’re riding for exercise.
I think this has already been more or less explained. Jerseys are tighter than they used to be and that primarily is for incremental gains but the fabrics are high tech and having them close to your skin improves moisture wicking and cooling. The shorts or bibs have very specific padding in them for moisture control as well as comfort. Road bike saddles have very little padding. Together with the shorts it is a system and works poorly without both. The bright colors for jerseys help with visibility.
Clipless pedals are pretty much required when you spin over 100 rpm. It becomes second nature to release by rotating your ankle outward.
If the rider the OP mentioned had an aero helmet on they were likely on a tri or TT bike. They were also almost certainly leaving or coming home after a ride out away from traffic.
Over the years I have ridden all over the US and LA, MS, and AL are by far the most dangerous for a cyclist.

I've known two in real life. Both have given it up now, at least the spandex and cycling on highways obnoxious part of it. They still have bikes.
One is an open bi-sexual.
The other is the biggest liberal I know, literally cancelled his lease after Trump won and flew to Canada to live there, Canada said no thanks, off you go back to the US.
So in my personal experience, these are the types of people who dress up in tights and block traffic on their fancy bikes.
They've got these now

It’s because as an adult riding a bike, there are only two ways you can look: gay or homeless.

I rode my bike to the coffee shop this morning.
You guys should try it sometime.
Maybe y’all wouldn’t be so angry and bitter all the time.
