That doesn't look like giving them his name from the jump.

I said he told them the truth from jump street. If you're innocently sitting in your car in a drive way with your door open, having a conversation, and multiple officers roll up, I fully believe his responses were justified. Can he not ask why they need his name? He never lied. All he did was ask questions and answer questions truthfully.

Man, 28 pages in 2 hours. I would ask for cliffs but I just watched the video and read the 1st and last pages. My guess is everyone agrees that the cops were mostly in the wrong except for lunch box?

I'm here, you dolt.

I don't. Try reading MY posts. I was all up in the Sterling thread, and agreed that the cops were likely justified if they thought he was going for his gun.

This.

For some reason everyone except cops need to own cops' mistakes to some people.

Can anyone disagree that the correct way to handle this situation would be the cops/department making a public statement taking ownership of the situation? Would work wonders for their perception in the community. People generally let frick ups go if they are acknowledged and owned by those who frick up. People generally do NOT let frick ups go if those that frick up always blame someone else for their mistakes.

So far from what I've seen, these cops and/or this department have taken 0 responsibility for doing just about everything wrong when handling this situation.

What makes you believe this when the cops lied after they identified him.

What makes you ask the same question a million times even after people have answered you?

I still don't understand why people have a hard time complying with police. No matter if he was justified in his actions, he was clearly being defiant. It's not hard, just do what they ask you to do

Let's see if any of them read this...

quote:

“Earlier today, a local defense attorney released an edited version of a SCMPD officer’s body worn camera video.

Because the edited version is misleading, is apparently intended to be inflammatory, and to continue our transparency with the community, the SCMPD is releasing all of the body camera video of the incident.

On February 1, 2016 at approximately 5:30 p.m. three officers were dispatched to a residence on the 3200 block of Martha Street to locate an individual at a specific address who according to detectives in Delano, California, had been in possession of a cell phone involved in robbery in California. While in route, the officers completed a warrant check on the named individual and learned there was an active Simple Assault warrant out of Cobb County. Upon entering the driveway a person who resembled the wanted person was observed seated in a car.

As you will see on the video, the officers spoke with the individual and requested his name. The individual was uncooperative and although he presented a first name at some point, it was unclear to the officers. As you will also see in the video after the individual was asked to get out of the car, he refused to exit the car, was uncooperative, and reached down toward the floorboard of the car in a manner which the officers perceived as a threat to their safety. After warning the individual several times, one of the officers tased the suspect and arrested him.

The video released by the defense attorney was edited and omits significant portions wherein a relative asks the individual to be cooperative. The relative on the video also suggests the arrestee is similar in appearance to the wanted person, who purportedly lived at that residence. The edited video also omits other calm interactions the officers had with relatives and the arrestee.

In order to continue our transparency with the public, the SCMPD has posted the video recordings in their entirety from all three officers who were on the scene in question.

The incident and video was brought to the attention to the Chief of Police on July 12, 2016 and we have begun an administrative investigation of this incident.

Police officers nation-wide face complex duties which require them to make decisions in an instant. They must simultaneously decide how to protect the public, the involved citizens, and protect their own safety.

We are reviewing the actions and decisions which our officers made in the current case. In doing so, we must consider all the facts and not rush to unfair judgements based on highly edited videos which are apparently intended to mislead and inflame the public against the officers involved.

SCMPD is committed to fairness, transparency and accountability. We ask that everyone involved in this incident, and similar ones involving conflicts between the police and the public, be committed to these same goals, and held to these same standards.

The SCMPD will not comment further until we complete our administrative investigation.”

i really dont think asking for a warrant (or any explanation of what was going on) is in any way impolite either.

the officer could have easily said "i am officer WHATEVER and i am here serving a warrant for arrest of a man matching your description, please show me your ID to verify identity"

what are you bolding that we didn't already know? I just watched the videos up until he is tased and there is literally no new information. Did you even watch them? Christ..

so the relative had calm interactions with the cops and thought they looked similar. That changes nothing. They still did not show him the warrant nor ask him for his ID.

Are you serious? You guys were going nuts over an edited video by this kid's lawyer. And yall fell for it. This situation isn't nearly as bad as yall made it out to be, but you'll never admit it.

I never said he made it better.

only that I understood why he reacted that way and that he didn't need to be cuffed to have his ID checked.

While i get this:

i feel like we dont have the same leeway of expectation for the random joe they approach that may likewise feel unsafe or be confused by the process.

the police walk into that situation with training, and a plan, and purpose, and the guy sitting in the car is ultimately the one really put on the spot. if his asking what they were doing was a curveball they werent prepared for, they arent qualified to have the job.
