NEWS FLASH..
If they cops tell you to put your hands on the car. Put your hands on the car. If he would have listened he could have then told them check my id while his hands where on the car and the situation would have never happened.
This is why the shite gets escalated. Listen to the damn cops. How hard is that to comprehend.

They were trying to get him out of the car and probably cuff him for his safety and theirs. At that point, he could have retrieved his id and the cuffs would be taken off and everyone could go about their day.
It didn't happen that way because he chose to make the confrontation a tense one.
yep and he immediately retreats back when he stood up.

You and ChadBoy are police officers correct?

cop: What's your name Patrick: why are you asking cop: i'm going to ask you one more time Patrick: ummmmm...Patrick cop: instead of saying "arrest him" how about "ok Patrick we have a warrant for XXXX at this address that fits your description can you show us some identification"
Yup. So simple.
Even if they don't believe him.. they can at least give him an opportunity to identify himself.
The cop lied about asking for I.D. He got caught up in the moment..
I recognize it takes a certain type of mentality to be a cop. It really does.. It almost requires an a-hole, because of the stuff they have to put up with.. but they can absolutely work with the civilians better in moments like this. Even when they think the person is lying.

The very first post I made in that thread. You can go find it if you want to.

Are you or someone in your family a cop?
No.

Do you think these officers should be reprimanded?
Yes. I can see why they acted like they did though.

He could have complied better, even though they were the ones escalating the situation and barely gave him a chance to process that three cops just rolled up on him - or maybe it was two, same point though.
But the cops are also the ones trained to deal with these situations and should be held to the higher standard. I've probably only gone against the cops on two or three of these things ever, but this one was bad.

I can. Doesn't remove the fault from the kid though. Why can't you say that?

And then once he said "I'm Patrick" the cops should have asked for his ID calmly and de-escalated the situation.

Can't be on the police force to fix everything.
Yes it can. They are the ones with the power to do so. You're basically saying we should all just do what they say, whether it's wrong or right, and that'll fix it? I can't fathom the corruption if we all treated the police like Gods even when they were wrong.

you fine with them not producing proof of a warrant?

Ok.......................... seconds later Patrick
Ummm...................Patrick
yeah, get out the car, let me make sure you aren't dangerous first and then we'll figure it out.

I said he probably could have handled it better but I don't blame him for handling the way he did

that was after he retreated and refused to put hands on car.

The cop knows he should have just asked for his ID. That is why he lies about asking for his ID afterwards.
Even the cop knows he's wrong here.
