This actually wouldn't be bad in public schools

Stop grading, teach at a high level (forget the lowest common denominator), and let standardized testing rank students performance. They kids who want to learn will, the kids who don't want to learn won't.

It’s starting to change. I know my kids high school offers kids the opportunity to get certified in HVAC, electrical, IT, etc instead of a college bound classes after 10th grade

This board has been preaching trades for as long as I’ve been on here. The same posters would also likely privately reject that their kids are meant for trades.

A trade skill and intelligence is different than book smarts in every sense of the word. Looking down on someone because they don't have the right "IQ" for you but are smart in their own field is stupid in its own right.

Some stress is good. It allows you to not be a fricking ditch digger for the rest of your life because you realized you have to work for anything meaningful in life.

Well, the world needs ditch diggers too!

Current students are in for a rude awakening in the real world. You don’t get graded in life. You get hired, reprimanded, fired, or a raise or salary cut.

I am not so sure about that. I know that is how the real world used to work but it seems like if you are black, gay or identify as some kind alphabet bullshite you go to the head of the line and become basically untouchable by management.

the practice of grading, and ranking, students is so widespread as to seem necessary, even though many researchers say it is highly inequitable.

don’t understand your point. Don’t “look down” on the trade. Then you say it’s apparent who will do well in college by the 10th grade, and we should funnel everyone else into a trade…. Doesn’t that indicate people choose a trade because they lack intelligence?

Exactly - plus ‘smart’ kids who can write well won’t be able to fix ACs

We will still end up with too many liberal arts majors

Let's see what happens to these students once they get a job and have their annual review.

You’re almost correct but not quite.

WE are in for a rude awakening when we all think we can retire and the country will continue to function.

In our race to the bottom in the USA, I'll bet they try to ban those too.

Man teachers have got to be the laziest people in the country. Work 9 months with multiple weeks of holidays, now they don’t grade work, and somehow they think they deserve more money. Crazy
