I've been out there. It's just a concrete cap that basically says "ye shalt not dig or drill here" with a plaque briefly describing the test. All the interesting stuff is a half mile down.

What you're seeing there is forward thinking in ways that you cannot comprehend. Note the spherical shape of the coliseum exterior. Now couple that with the conical roof structure. What you got there is a redneck space ship awaiting lift-off. When the ground starts to rumble head to the Jackson coliseum and start the countdown. Upon eruption that puppy gets shot off into the outer space and goes into orbit sometime thereafter.

The government set off underground nuclear bombs in several places across the US in attempts to find uses for nuclear technology. It was called the Plowshare Program.
They set off one near a 4x4 trail I rode in CO in an attempt to free up natural gas. It was basically an early attempt at fracking on a grand scale. All that’s left are the pads they carved out of the mountain side for the bomb site and control site and a small cement cap over the wellhead with a plaque. It was called Project Rulison.

There was some work done by the government via plowshare on a shallow salt mine near winnfield also. Not sure how these ended up but that was the end of that mine.

It sounds kind of crackpot but hey, if I was stuck in Jackson I'd be explorin' every option too.
