I really like this but I don't like that big frickin calendar on the side. I'll keep looking.

You can get one just like that with no date for $5700.

I think that sounds right on a new no date Sub, but thought if he could get a almost new box papers Sub for about the same price as the Seamster he was paying 6K for.

I don't think the OP really knows what he wants. He was originally talking about a Seamaster, then posted a pic of an OP Date.

I have a Seamaster with an orange ring around it. I like my sub but wanted to be a little different. Great watch.

I have a SeaMaster that is 20 years old and it is as good now a as the day that I bought it.

I have a Rolex and never wear it, I just like my Omega better.

If you want a rolex professional series, (sub, SD, GMT etc) jump now. Prices are the rise (new, used and grey) as rolex is pulling back on production.

grand seiko also make some great watches with automatic movements that rival the swiss for a fraction of the price. their movements also beat the pants off anything rolex has.

That is a little bold and certainly hyperbole, it really depends on what you value in a movement.

As for Omega vs Rolex they usually reside in my collection in roughly even numbers, I currently have 10 of each. My Rolex collection is more varied than my Omega collection. Where I tend to cover the majority of the Rolex pros I tend to like Omega divers mainly particularly POs and Ploprofs. And though heresy I am not a Speedy Pro fan and actually prefer my Mark 40 to the manual winds though I do like the 9300 series Speedys BUT they are just too thick.

I am actually a big fan of the Omega 85XX and 93XX movements and prefer them to even the 3255. Wearing and my Timegrapher tell me the Omegas are actually more accurate on the whole and they have a lot of more modern tech, but the 3255 is by no means a slouch and one of the best movements without lots of buzz word materials and components (despite the fact Rolex has a trade name for even the most mundane of components or materials).

We as watch nuts (or WIS if you are in the cognoscenti) often talk about retained value of which Patek and Rolex are the shining stars. Retained value or appreciation means a lot to someone like me that has 60+ watches and may flip 10 or 20 in a year. I just think it makes little real sense for the guy with one or two nice watches to worry about. The VAST majority of people I know with a Rolex or an Omega (or most any of the mid-level brands) buy them and keep them usually forever. I think it ends up as a talking point more than criteria that should be given heavy weight.

There are a lot of people that buy Rolex because of the crown on the dial, which is fine but I always suggest people buy what actually moves them. If I could only own one dive watch from Omega or Rolex it would likely be a Planet Ocean (probably my GMT Good Planet). A Omega Ploprof would be second then my Rolex DSSD. While I like subs they just aren't near the top of my dive watch pyramid (despite owning a 116619). I also prefer the Fifty Fathoms, Panerai Submersibles and the JLC NSD to Omega or Rolex divers.

Don't buy a watch to satisfy others or for what they may think in the end most people could care less what you have on your wrist and that goes down every day. Buy a watch that moves you and makes you smile everytime you look down at it whether it is a Lange or a Seiko 5.

I wouldn't say that a grand seiko is a fraction of the price.

I'd like to know if obtuse has any grand seikos in his collection, and if so, what are his thoughts?
