You would be surprised. The world went and got itself in a big hurry between the 1920s and the 1950s.

You mustn’t remember too well because Bundy killed those women in the 70’s

I remember that he was executed in 1989 since my HS teacher in Florida came to class with a bucket of fried chicken (to signify that they were ‘frying’ Bunday that day).. so i guess i assumed he had murdered some women in the early 80s too.. but hey, i guess you really got me good .

I did and that is a fact. Being 16 in 1976 was incredible. From 76 to 86 was peak USA.

11 on 1/1/80 and 21 on 12/31/89.

Middle school/high school/college all in the 80s. Absolute fricking sweet spot.

I miss it so.

No. That is called being 16 to 26.

People tend to not miss a certain time frame. They miss a time in their lives where they had no responsibilities and no expectations of them.

This is the epitome of thinking everything was better back in your day when it really wasn't.

Parents in the 80s I'm sure lamented how shitty it was compared to their day back in the 50s. Our kids in 2060 will talk about how everything was better in 2020....ok maybe not 2020 but point still stands

And the late 60s and 70s. Ah back in the good old days when we only had males and females.

I was 6 to 16 from 76 to 86 and agree that 76-86 was the peak, at least in my lifetime. Late 70s and early 80s were an incredible time to be alive.

I did too but I've always felt the late 90s were peak for Western Civ.
Ended with 9/11

I spent a while in Europe in 2000, obviously pre-9/11.

The freedom and attitude there at that time was glorious.

Thanks Obama.

Not sure how old you are, but i promise you that the Cold War was a very real thing.. it was all over the news, and there was also a hugely publicized Movie of the Week[tm]- back when MOTW’s were a big deal- called The Day After, which portrayed the after effects of nuclear fallout on middle America.. i think that the legendary acting icon Steve Guttenburg was in it … So yeah, maybe my parents could have doen a better job shielding me from certain news and tv shows- but you’d have to be a nitwit, or a taco short of a combination plate, to not know that the threat of nuclear obliteration was very, very real .

I'm 60 and was in the military in the 80s. The cold war was real, but didn't dominate our thoughts back down, nor did it dominate the media. Ronald was on his way to dismantling the USSR. The 50s/60s there was much more fear.

I'm 57 and was in the military in the 80s. Thinking back, we were training at NTC in California and then the Gulf war happened.

was in USN in 80s. Russian Bear bombers flew over us every day while deployed.. After the able archer incident in 83 the threat of nuclear war went way down. 50/60s way more stress.

of course threat of nuclear war may now be greater than it's ever been

Never assume dude, and I never really meant to, but I guess I did...

You do realize people sit on death row for years without being executed, huh?

I loved the 80's probably because all 7 years of HS and college were in the 80s for me. While my life seemed chaotic and stressful at times in retrospect it was incredibly simple and low stress.

No doubt. The Summer of '83 was among the best times of my life. It was the last summer of childhood, right before my senior year, but I felt like an adult. Great friends, almost zero responsibilities. Can't believe that was 40 years ago.

Not having the constant contact aspect of a cell phone was a glorious thing. You could just "disappear" and people had to wait for you to come back. No calling to find out where you were

You can still do this, FYI. They can complain more, but tough.
