Grew up in the mid 80s but we lived out in the middle of nowhere. No neighbors and right off the highway so couldn't ride your bike anywhere. We had a small farm(chickens, pigs, goats, and one cow) so we tended to them in the morning and my brothers and I played outside the rest of the day.
I always wanted to go over to my friends and cousins houses because they had the cool toys, pools and could ride your bikes to places. But they always wanted to come to my house because they were fascinated with our farm. I was so glad when we actually moved.

Should have seen it in the 70's and early 80's.

I grew up in very rural LA, so my summers were mostly spent roaming the woods, catching the same fish over and over again in the creek behind my house, swimming in the same creek, or building myself intricate bike trails in the woods.
No other kids lived close enough around me so that I could ride my bike to their house. It was pretty lonely, but it definitely helped build my own creative imagination.
I do remember by August I was ready for school to start so I could see my friends again.

Saw “Star Wars” in 1977 at the Bon Marche movie theater which was a separate building with only 2 screens but they were huge. Had a large popcorn and Coke. Was blown away when the Storm Troopers and Darth Vader made their appearances.

The ending of “Rouge One” brought me back to sitting in that seat in 1977.

I miss mine in the early 70's. I went to stay with my uncle
during the summer months, me my cousin and uncle would go fishing everyday.
We would camp out on the Tenn. River part
of Guntersville lake the week of the 4th of July.
This was before Pro. fishing got going good, running a frog or rat across the grass late evening topwater watching the water boil then wham a 10 lber
largemouth.
Damn i miss those days.

Baton Rouge has to be a terrible place to grow up now

Yeah it wasn't a bad town 25-30+ years ago. I regret raising our kids here though.

This just in everyone thinks their childhood was the best era. Nostalgia power is real

sad this whole genre of movies is dead, not sure why Hollywood can’t make just lighthearted funny movies with younger actors that can entertain parents and kids
Because they have to make movies for China or go out of business.

The 70s and 80s were far better although I’ll have to concede that the OP’s generation was the last that grew up without the internet fricking things up. You NEVER see kids playing outside anymore.

I miss the feeling of walking into Blockbuster on a near 90-degree summer night. I don't know why this in particular stuck with me, but it has
Because rentals were even sweeter in the summer time, friends over to play those games or watch the movies on week nights.

Drive by any sports complex and you will see literally hundreds of kids playing outside.
I have neighborhood kids playing up and down my street all day long right now.
Maybe you never see kids playing outside because you NEVER go outside?

It’s a true shite hole. Most everything that was decent, innocent, and good is gone/shutdown or is ghetto. Now, the only way to live decently in BR is to have enough money. When I leave, I’m never coming back.

Because most of the directors can’t legally be within 1000 yards of a young kid.

Yeah, I'm a bit older than OP. I started LSU in the mid 90s. I agree that it is sort of the last generation that grew up before technology started taking over everyone's lives.

I didn't do summer camp, when I woke up around 10 my mom threw me outside and locked the door. We had to occupy ourselves....

you heard me. Mom still gives him shite about it. She worked a lot in the summer at McNeese and he would kill time and go see whatever movie he wanted. He will just list off all the raunchy movies he took me as a baby to.
The first one i remember is Back to the Future, which explains why im a super fan to this day.
