my dad (RIP ) in one of my most favorite pics ever.

he LOVED NLU and being a good dad, diligently rocked the MEMBERS ONLY jacket i bought him for decades.

it was chilly outside so he's wearing the NLU cap over his other one. wasn't going to let the cold keep him from repping the Indians.

I also think it's pathetic that ULaLa fashions themselves as "The University of Louisiana". It's like someone in the Salvation Army demanding to be called a soldier.

If not them then who should it be?

There isn't a University of Louisiana

Every other state has a flagship university for each university system.

Why would Lafayette not be qualified to be the flagship of the UL system?

I played for Pat and Mike Collins. Great people. Tough as hell, but I appreciate them helping shape me into a man.

NLU was so great when I was a kid. Play a YMCA football game in the morning behind the stadium, go home and shower, come back that evening for the game with the whole team. Such a great time

Why do yall continually try and push this agenda that literally no one outside of Lafayette wants to follow.

Before the name change and moving from I-AA to I-A for football, NLU was QBU. Stan Humphries, Bubby Brister and Doug Pedersen . Decision makers should have let well enough alone.

Do they...I never hear about flagship universities for systems...only a state's flagship university. But if it's something that makes you feel better go for it I guess

Only Miami had more QBs in the NFL.

Roosevelt Potts.

Potts liked to tell the story about Billy Brewer showing up on signing day, only to be turned away by the Sheriff. Potts had charges against him for shooting a shotgun in the air around a crowd of people. It happened just a couple of months before signing day.

Potts had been committed to Ole Miss, so Billy Brewer shows up and an NLU coach is there along with the Sheriff. Sheriff told Potts he couldn’t leave the state, so he signed with NLU.

Potts quoted Brewer as being highly pissed and said “I, I, I, just can’t believe this shite” before storming off.

Back in ‘89, the coaching staff would go to each player in person and get them to sign. They decided which coach went and how early based on how big of a recruit you were. Needless to say, OM sent their head coach early that morning.
