Taylor Swift has donated $100,000 to a GoFundMe account set up by the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, who was killed Wednesday in the Kansas City, Missouri, parade shooting. Twenty-one people were shot and wounded in the shooting outside Union Station, police said. Lopez-Galvan, 44, was shot and later died after gunfire erupted while fans were celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory, according to the Kansas City Missouri Police Department. The online fundraiser was "set up to benefit the family of Lisa Lopez-Galvan," according to the GoFundMe page and meant to "provide vital financial support to her family as they process this unthinkable tragedy." On Friday morning, a representative for the singer confirmed to ABC News that Swift had donated to the GoFundMe. "Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences in the wake of your devastating loss. With love, Taylor Swift," the singer wrote alongside the virtual donation. Two donations -- each $50,000 -- appear on the public list from Swift. The family has now surpass its initial fundraising goal of $75,000.

I don't hate Swift or think she's talentless. I find her annoying but that's not really her fault.
That said, it's probably the equivalent of a 250 dollar donation from an average dude. Which is great, but nobody is writing stories about it.

It’s still a nice gesture. I imagine the donation will cover the funeral expenses.

Noble I suppose, but this is the equivalent of me giving a homeless guy $10.

One side of me says that's awesome of her to do even if that amount is nothing to her. She's making a big impact in someone's life.
The other, cynical side of me wishes this was done anonymously.

i'm good. taylor swift does good things from time to time. Good for her. But i'm not going to pretend this donation doesn't make herself look good all the while its about as insignificant of a number to her as a quarter underneath my truck seat is.she's made huge monies off her chiefs exposure this year.

She also have $100k each to the people who drove her tractor trailers for her world tour. Normally they get $5-$10k bonuses from artists who use their trucking company.
She may get a lot of shite but she doesn't seem like a "diva" like most of these music artists these days.

I promise I'm not trying to attack Swift
I just find it hard to make any determinations about the character of Uber-wealthy celebrities when they make donations like this to high profile causes. It isn't felt by them at all, it's unclear whether they really have any personal hand in it, etc.
Now, when the story comes out in 3 weeks that she visited children in the hospital 4 times and did it in secret, then it might impact how I view her. And that stuff does happen of course, and I wouldn't be surprised if Swift has done some stuff like that in the past (I just don't know).

Did you Donate $250? I know I did not. Hate on her for whatever valid reason, but this is a generous act.
The hate for Swift is overboard. I know Kanye is popular and all, but he started a terrible trend with hating on her and Kim Kardashian just perpetuated it. The OT seems to relish in it just as much.

very nice of her!
to think that won't even put a dent in her taxes as a donation

That's great.. But why wouldn't she just anonymously send over $100k in cash that's non-taxable and no fees? But then she doesn't get a thread on TD..
Posted on 2/16/24 at 8:56 am to WildcatMike
But, but would she have done the same if it had been a SF win/celebration?

she's one of a very few entertainers who are worth over a billion dollars. the negative press she would receive if she didn't do stuff like that would cost her much more.
she may 100% be doing it out of the kindness of her heart, but there is also a huge incentive for her to do so

Argue with dumbasses on twitter that can’t see the forest from the trees if it was shoved up their arse. I’m literally trying to change the world for the better.

Their goal was $75,000 and she helped them hit it. Should she have given some rando $10 million?
You people are insufferable with your false equivocations.
