I also remember that old-school barbershop next door to Ramers.

Lived on sharlane and the grandparents were on bluebonnet back when it was just 2 lanes. Ramers was the bomb and that barber shop had 1cent bubble gum! Mr vick was the old man that cut hair. Good times early 80’s before we moved out to southeast BR area

Yes! I remember him now. I remember him telling me if I squirmed in the chair too much, he might accidentally cut my ear off. That kept me still.

Anyone remember the crossing guard at Cal and Floynell in the 80's? I think her name was Mrs. Lane or something. She had green teeth and was kinda mean.

My dad use to be one of the owners at S&S Battery so My brother and I would ride our bikes from my grandparents house up there to hangout. We’d ride to Ramers and hang out in the back with their kids. We stayed in video visions too and when that circle k got street fighter in its little arcade we’d have tournaments in there

I lived on Sharlane in the late 80s and early 90s. I was about 6 houses down from the dead end. What house was yours?

I remember Mrs. Malone. Before third grade, Mrs. Jones was always yelling at everyone on the playground. I was scared to death I would get her for third grade, and wanted to be in Mrs. Malone's class. I ended up with Mrs. Jones and she turned out to be one of my two favorite teachers of all time.

I don't remember much about him, except a slow, kind of deep voice.

Out third grade play theme was "Tall Tales of America." Things like Paul Bunyan, Casey Jones, Pecos Bill, etc. It was a lot of fun. This was in 1988. Have video of it somewhere boxed away.

They are having town hall meetings to discuss the future for Jefferson Terrace Elementary and the future school they want to build on their property that is the empty lot over by Blue Cross that is surrounded by the existing neighborhood.

Pretty sure that future is a new school where Jefferson Terrace is.

I read that they wanted to build a high school there.

Baton Rouge would have good schools if we could only have neighborhood schools instead of busing kids all over the place to meet quotas.

There is no forced busing and technically speaking attendance zones for elementary schools are fairly tight. If everyone who lives in the JT attendance zone sent their elementary aged children there it would be heavily majority white school. You could apply this same logic too half the schools south of Florida blvd. The school board is only filling seats because the neighborhood kids go to private or magnet schools. If you are in that zone your kid has priority seating.

Give your school board rep a call and demand they tighten up school attendance zones even further to reflect your community. Don’t just sit behind a keyboard and hope for something.
