the only collision I've ever had with a vehicle was when I was on a sidewalk avoiding traffic.

the rule has always been that bicyclists can ride on public roads, but have to follow the regular traffic rules...which do not allow vehicles to travel in the wrong lane.

I am on the trace frequently and know exactly what you are talking about...the bicycle traffic on a Sunday afternoon is maddening..

Rules have never been to ride against traffic. Bicycles are supposed to obey the same rules of the road as cars.

Correct.

I cringe when i see bikers riding the wrong way in the bike lanes on either side of Johnston Street. It is just a matter of time until they get hit.

People pulling right on to a road aren't normally careful about looking at traffic coming from the right.

I'm in a full size truck in a vehicle lane, you're wearing a size medium suit on a bike.

I don't think so.

Much better than a 10x10 concrete house with steel bars for a door you lived in.

You're big talk behind a keyboard, then you apply the brakes like everyone else. Sorry bud, you'll be a few more seconds late.

There's a law that states a vehicle has to yield to a bike in a vehicle lane?

Nah. I'll keep my speed, and pass as close as possible.

frick cyclist. I won't move out of the lane to give you a "safe space"

Well cyclists have every right to the road as a motor vehicle, and the law states that you must yield to any vehicle that you come up on from behind. If you rear end someone, you are 99.99% of the time at fault. Same laws apply. Sorry, pal, but you will yield to my spandex arse.

Nobody expects you to move out of the lane, just obey the laws put in place.

I have no choice but to yield to that, it's as wide as the road.

If you ever feel like passing close to a guy on a cervelo R3 in the Houston area, just pull over and tell me your thoughts next time. I'd love to discuss laws of the road with you.

It's fun to pass as close as possible and blow their little mirror off their helmets.

Kid I used to work with shot one with a bbgun in Texas in high school before I knew him... He's now a cop in Lake Charles I'd never do shite like that, that's fricked up. I just smile when I see darwinism at work when I hear of one of them getting swiped down a busy arse road they have no business down.

For sure bruh. Except my argument isn't on legality of the issue. I understand the legality aspect of it. My argument is for the self preservation that should kick in and say maybe it's not a good idea to peddle my spandex arse 2 feet away from cars going 45 miles an hour. Maybe I should do it in a safer area, regardless of the legality of it.

The speed limit on the Natchez Trace is low enough without having to deal with cyclist.

I wasn't actually talking about discussing the law. That was sarcasm I was talking about putting a cycling shoe up your arse.

It's not dangerous at all if you give a cushion. If you have to wait 30 seconds to allow that cushion, is it really the end of the world? Enough if an issue to take someone's life? I agree riding in busy areas is stupid and dickish. But trust me, it could be the middle of cow pastures an hour out from the nearest stop light and a motherfricker will pass close "Cuz cyclist don't b'long hur".

I only ride on public roads in fairly rural area very early on Sat and Sun mornings and still get punishment passed. It's actually worse in rural areas because people with attitudes like the OP tend to be less educated and more "redneck" in my experience.
