Actually, 2 - 16 year olds....I have twins. My question is, should they share a car, or should they not be penalized for being twins and each get a car? I am not talking new, I don't believe in that for a kids first car, but a decent used car. If they were a year apart I don't think I would be making them share, but maybe.
They live within rock throwing distance of their school and I can't fathom buying 2 cars at once with class rings, college visits and college on the horizon. What would the OT do?

Are they responsible enough to load a dishwasher?

Make them get a job to pay for gas and insurance. The one that doesnt, doesnt get to drive.

Get them one to share and let them figure it out.

2. Do they like puppies?
3. Profit?

Same problem here. Mine are 15 yrs old and have made the decision that they will share. If they go away for college then will cross that bridge when we get there. Was going to let the one with better grades drive but both are straight A students so they will have to figure it out.

I have twin brothers. They would rather have 2 OK cars than share 1 really nice car.

Get them each a car. I always liked the idea of giving them a price range and let them do the car shopping. Teaches them to research, work with aggressive sales people, and use common sense. Especially if you let them know they are paying for maintenance and mechanic work.

Maybe just give them each a new Xbox controller and call it a day.

Yes....both 4.0+ and involved in sports, theatre, student govt. Etc. I am grateful that they are responsible SO FAR!So can't hang the irresponsibility thing over either one of them....I appreciate all the thoughts so far in this thread....

Practicality says share, but really, I think they should have their own.

I have two that aren't twins but very close in age. They both have cars. This decision goes back to my childhood when I was driving age, I had the 3 of the biggest POS cars out there that left me on sides of roads and embarrassed me everyday, one of which my dad gave away when it left me on side of road because it wasn't worth having or repairing.

I admit my kids are spoiled beyond belief but they are good girls, have the grades and stay out of trouble which I think is their "job" for the moment. They could be far worse.

One car is fine for now. I have a 16 and 17 yr old, they attend the same school, one works and one will start work after the summer.
The 17 yr old almost has enough to buy his own car so when he does the other will get the old car.

My twins are sharing a car for high school. They make it work. They are headed to different colleges in the Fall so it will be 2 cars. They will have a price range and get to pick their own.

I wouldn't have really thought of it as penalizing them for being twins until you phrased it that way but yeah, that's exactly what you would be doing. If its feasible two cars.

Man that's tough. I definitely think it makes sense to have a beater as the first hs car but normally you could pass it down to the next kid and get the older a better car that will last through college. With twins I think you almost have to get two decent cars that will last them through college.

I also don't think there's anything wrong with having them drive 1 beater for a year or two of HS. I mean they don't need to drive two cars to school, hell I used to car pool with neighbor to football and we both had cars.
