I really hate the bright LED bulbs that are on every shelf these days. I just want a soft white light that has a yellowish tint and gives the room a warm feeling

They sell them at walmart and all the box stores, you just need to look for ones that say soft white. Not the ones that say daylight.

I have all LED bulbs I got at walamart, put them in about 3 years ago and they are all still going strong. Cant remember the brand, but pretty sure it was the cheapest brand they sold.

Each bathroom sink and the dining room table light have these clear, round bulbs, about 3" wide, and squatty. I have 17 of them in my house. We built the house in 2001 and bought a case of 12 of them.

I have had to replace 2 in 18 years.

If you put a light on a dimmer and put 80-100 volts instead of 120 or whatever they last a LOT longer. That’s probably what you have as said OP is a light made for 130+ volts and I bet you have close to 100 going to it.

The issue with LED’s is not name brand at all, it’s that a lot of them are straight up scams. Even the big names make shitty LED’s on purpose, to make money. There are LED’s rated for 5,000 hours and LED’s rated for 50,000+. A lot of the ones in big box stores are rated for 7500 hours and then there are some marketed as ‘twice the lifespan’ for 15,000. When if you look online you can very easily find 25,000 hour bulbs.

the enclosed light fixtures pretty much wipes out any long term savings as the heat kills the bulb super fast...

This is why I take the covers off the fixtures. I rarely have to replace bulbs

Theoretically, if a filament bulb is made well it should last for decades. All it needs is the filament to heat without breaking and in a vacuum so if the filament is thick enough and air never gets into it, there's no reason why it should not continue working for damned near ever.

There’s a fire station in New York that has a bulb that allegedly hasn’t been changed since the 1910s

My Grandfather had a bulb going for over 45 years at his fuel plant. He made the book of Guinness records in the fifties or so for it.

Heat is the killer of LED's. The ones with the biggest heatsinks are the best, but they've stopped making them. Why? because they aren't cheap. Consumers will NOT buy an expensive light bulb even if it lasts 20 years. They want 50 cent bulbs even if they're junk.

Also, be sure and look on the box and see if your bulb is rated for "enclosed fixtures." If it's not, then you definitely should not be putting it in recessed fixtures or in fixtures with no airflow.
