Correct. Structural steel softened and it was actually the lightweight truss floors topped with concrete slabs that pancaked straight down once the joinery to the floors gave. The floor system was the weakness, and also the fact that the two planes used were larger than planes in existence at the time of the structural design calculations in the 60s.

Here is a good quick read that breaks down the design of the buildings and the collapse sequence:
The WTC Construction and Collapse
WTC 1 & 2 had an innovative design that left the floors completely open without any columns outside the core and the building perimeter. Unfortunately on 9/11 this turned out to be a catastrophic flaw as once the trusses connecting the core to the exterior columns began to sag, twist and fail they pulled the exterior columns inward, once they could no longer hold the weight of the floors above the impact zone the buildings collapsed.
Clear in video from the collapse of WTC 2:
I cannot quickly find a good image or gif of WTC 1 buckling as it likely initiated on the south side of the building and almost all videos/pictures were taken from the north. Some images seem to show column buckling around the building prior to collapse and I believe NYPD helicopter unit relayed the the ground that based on what they were seeing the building would collapse soon.

Funny you bring this up. The coincidences are becoming quickly very similar. Govt pleading ignorance while literally all evidence points to them lying at the very least about prior knowledge. Our government has either the worst luck in terms of coincidences that make them seem complicit or they're lying sacks of shite that have declared war on its citizens under guise of terrorism. I side with lying sacks of shite. Aren't enough coincidences in the world.
