So, today was my first day back at the office after a few weeks. 4 O'Clock rolls around and I head for my car, check my mirrors, look behind me, and back out of my parking space. All of a sudden, a black SUV fills my rear view and crashes into me at an angle (I had the inside track!).

Honestly, I wasn't too upset. Parking lot accidents happen. I get out and my bumper is crushed but the tire is fine, taillights are fine and it looks like the rear quarter panel is fine.

No big deal.

So, I talk to the girl hit me and half joke,"Well, guess we were both trying to go home at the exact same time, huh?"

She nodded and said this,"Yeah, I don't know how I hit you. My back up camera wasn't even on and my proximity sensors didn't even beep."

"Hold on. You didn't look behind you or check your mirrors?"

"I said my camera didn't come on."

"Ok, I'm just going to go sit in the car now and call the police."

Alabama is a no fault state as far as parking lot fenders benders are concerned. So, cop shows up, no report, y'all have a nice day.

Seriously though, have backup cameras made people worse drivers? Are they too dependent on these things to even look over their shoulders while backing up or check their mirrors?

I've noticed this a lot recently.

TL/DR Woman backed into me in the parking lot because her backup camera had yet to come on. Backup cameras suck.

Sounds like women drivers are the issue, not backup cameras.

Please change title of thread.

It's just an extra tool you have when backing up... probably the best one. Some people just suck at driving and a camera isn't going to change that.

She didn't put her backup camera on? She just threw it in reverse and hoped for the best? She hoped Jesus was gonna take the wheel and he didn't.

And your thread title makes no sense. You hate idiot drivers who are dumb and shouldn't be on the road. Leave backup cams outta this. Backup cam didn't do anything. Literally.

One time when I was in high school we were in alabama and we had a stick shift car with us and my one friend whos car it was wouldn't wake up and the other person was afraid to drive because he was on suspended license so I had to drive all of us to waffle house and I didn't have a good grasp on stick shift driving but we made it and it was pretty touch and go there at places but we made it all in one piece and i didn't think anybody else on the road noticed that I didn't really know what I was doing behind a stick shift

Gauch. That's a beautiful story. I'll follow it up with my own csb. At friends house in river ridge. Get stoned and drunk. Suns still out. We are working on putting his 'system' in his Tahoe. Me and my buddy think it's a great idea to take out his manual ranger to subway. This dude kills the engine 50 times before we made it back home. Didn't even know how to put it in reverse. I had to push this summbitch out the parking spot. Got fricked up and ate a meatball sun though.

In regards to op's pragragh concerning his dad. What the frick is all that about? Your dad retired so you can't go to work?

Agreed women drivers blow.

My Dad got the job over the woman that just took over for him after he retired. It's always been tense between her and my family.

I don't have to go in the office if I don't want to. I go in to turn in contracts and use the copier and binding machine. Or just shoot the shite and see what everyone is doing.

I thought it best just to wait a few weeks and let the dust settle.

Of course, I get in my office today and have three of the top producers come in, shut the door, and proceed to bitch about the new boss and ask if we are going to another company or starting our own.

So if you don't like someone you can buy a $300 piece of crap beater, park across from someone you don't like, gun it in reverse as soon as they start backing up, smash the shite out of their nice car and you can't get in trouble?

Women driving will always be the issue. Applies to just about every woman I know. Usually they have cars too big for them to drive and are paying attention to anything but what's going on around them

Actually that's absolutely true. As long as you don't admit fault, and the other car isn't parked, then no one is at fault. Had one of these in BR not too long ago. Other guy was at fault clearly, even admitted it to me, then lied to the cop when he asked for a statement. Cop told me he knew who was at fault but couldn't do anything

You make a good point. I just spent the last two weeks with a Subaru Outback with eyesight and adaptive cruise control while I was waiting for my car in the shop. After a few days I found that I REALLY started relying on the car and it's tech, and started to relax on my end. Was actually kind of unnerving once I got my car back without any of that tech.

I can only imagine how poor of a driver it makes someone, like a teenager, who hasn't had 20+ years experience driving without relying on modern tech. The new tech isn't a bad thing, and the car actually did hit the brakes before my human brain could react when someone in front of me slammed on their brakes, but I found that it makes you lazy and creates bad habits.
