I gave my son his first phone and he couldn’t last a week without getting it taken away

25My son is 12 and I thought he was responsible enough to handle getting a phone. It’s mainly for calling and texting when he needs to but I told him he couldn’t use the phone during the school week but being he was out of school for Thanksgiving week, I let him use it for a certain amount of time a day. We got home this evening and my wife told him to handle some chores and he just acted like she wasn’t there and went to the room to look at his phone.
He kept ignoring her and pouted and got mad when we got on him and I took his phone away and he won’t be getting it for a long time. I told him he couldn’t last a week without losing his privilege and he failed the test of being responsible. I have parental control on his phone and no social media so he wasn’t looking at that. He apologized and he is back to how he was before getting the phone. I didn’t realize how much a phone could change a kid like that.
