re: I found a 04 Tacoma for $13,900 with only 65,000 miles. Does that sound like a good deal?

Thats a 20 year old truck. With 20 year old seals. With 20 year old hoses.

Is it a good deal? Sure. Is it super low miles? Also yes. Is it still going to give you 20 yr old problems? Also yes.

I bought a 10 year old, low mileage, single cab small truck in college for $3000 (late 90s). Just some info in case it helps.

weird history on that truck. It was only driven 2000 miles in the past 5 years. When covid started the maintenance stopped.

That’s a steal.

That low of miles means it was probably some older man’s truck and her basically drove it to Home Depot, the plant nursery, and the grocery store. Maybe a couple fishing trips.

Probably a solid truck

My guess is someone’s grandfather used it to go the grocery store and Lowe’s. He got sick and died. The family sold it a couple years later after settling the estate.

I offered $9,500 and they said No so I’m moving on.

MMR is what they are going at auction. Dealerships are always gonna try to purchase at or below auction value. JD Power doesnt even have a book on it and thats what most banks go by when financing a vehicle. Anything over 11k is crazy IMHEO. Nice truck? Yes but not for almost 14k. You can find better, newer and safer(updated safety features) options out there.

Those older Toyotas are known to get rust in the frame…especially if it was up north. Have that checked closely.

I bought an 08 Tacoma 4door 4WD with ~180k miles for $11k after TTL back in 2019. It has 293k miles on it now. I've only had very minor repairs(knock on wood), and it's still in excellent condition inside and out. It gets about 20 mpg. New tires just cost me $1700.

A quick search shows my same truck going for $13-18k in central TX. I love it, and I'm hoping it goes for another 200,000 miles.

I know little to nothing about truck values. I'm in the market for a used Tacoma to use around town and for my son to drive. I've found a 04 Tacoma for $13,900 with only 65,000 miles. Does that sound like a good deal?

I'd probably roll the dice on it....I have been lucky with older low mileage vehicles over the years. Also its for a kid....odds are pretty good he won't put a lot of miles on it. We bought our son a new Huyandai whem graduated from high school 7 years ago and he went to college 8 hours away. He is still driving it and it has less than 75K on it (he lives in Atlanta and walks just about everywhere). The car he had in High School for 2 years had about 80K on it when we gave it to him and it had about 95K on it when we bought the new one for him. The secret is to make him and his friends pay for gas LOL. They will get really creative about ways to get where they want to go without burning $3 a gallon gas.

That thing probably still runs like a beast but 14k for a 20 year old truck is completely insane

I've got a sweet 2001 Landcruiser with 310k miles ready for a first time driver. It's slow, never gets stuck and room for all kinds of sports equipment.

as someone that owns an 09 with 110k miles....

if someone offers me $25k, I guess I'm walking home
You can probably afford to hire a taxi or an Uber ride at that point.

Especially if the purchaser pays in like $10s & $5s.

It would also depend on how far away from home you were and what the current weather conditions were like.

What would you apply the remaining $24,900-ish windfall to?

We here have questions, sir.

This IS a message board.

That 20 year old truck will be on the road when there are no 2024 models still running, if simple maintenance is done.
