I found a 04 Tacoma for $13,900 with only 65,000 miles. Does that sound like a good deal?

I know little to nothing about truck values. I'm in the market for a used Tacoma to use around town and for my son to drive. I've found a 04 Tacoma for $13,900 with only 65,000 miles. Does that sound like a good deal?

That would be a lot for any 2004, but with only 65k miles that may be right on the money if it’s a TRD 4x4 or a double cab.

It's a 20 year old vehicle.
Choose wisely.
Me, I'd look for something newer for my offspring, but that's me.

How big is the cab? Is it 4wd? If it's both, then it's a really good deal. The tacomas made in that era go for 500k miles

It's only 2WD with a regular cab. The cab appeals to me so my son won't have other people in the car distracting him.
$13k does seem like a lot for a car, but 65,000 miles on a use Tacoma is hard to beat.

Got a 2010 TRD ( not 4x4) with 180k miles on it. Runs like a top. Will drive it til it quits , hopefully in a long time

You need to ensure that the 65K odometer hasn't been jacked with. Are there any service records? Look at the wear on the brake pedal that might indicate it's been on the road a lot farther than 65K

Because Todd in the passenger seat and KenLeigh riding bitch won't be a distraction.

Prerunner or standard 2wd height?

as someone that owns an 09 with 110k miles, that sounds like a great deal to me

FWIW, in the last 3 months, I've now been offered $18k and $20k for my truck by strangers
if someone offers me $25k, I guess I'm walking home

It’s an ok deal but if you’re set on the truck, I would try to negotiate lower. Check out the Kelley Blue Book value and see what it says too.

older tacomas in good shape command a premium. you cant really go by book value.
same with jeeps, fj cruisers, etc

What's the consensus on the new Tacomas? Are they going to be as reliable as the old ones?

quote:They do, but for the 1st and second gen Tacomas that will be the 4WD with a TRD package. Some prerunners sell well under the right condition, but a 2WD does not command anywhere near the same as a 4WD on any of the models you listed.

Yeah, the MSRP is $1000 less than the current asking price.

If you want a pre 90s small toyota truck in good shape they are around 25k now.
