Try hards across the state are getting sore thumbs with the DVs in here.
It's the coolest free party on earth. Relax. Be happy we have it. It's ours.
In Dallas it's just Tuesday.

Just think of the thousands of New Orleans natives who had to move to Houston or Dallas or Atlanta to find jobs but wish they could be right there with you.

Mardi Gras is trash. It used to fun, but too many scumbags ruined it for me about 30 years ago. (See Metairie)

Extravaganza was unbelievable this year. Dome sweet home.

I've been a few times. However, from my experiences, it was dull. Women dolled up, loaded , with dudes in tuxedos pulling ice chests. This was back in the day, and I'm not sure what its like now. The bathroom line was ridiculous.

I like my mardi gras cold and raining.
Sunny and warm is for pussies

I feel bad for the turds that are too young to have experienced how awesome NOLA was in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s.
This is the answer, it’s not the same city anymore.

Have no desire to ever go back to Nola, much less during mardi gras

I lived on the parade route for several years. It was fun, but wore thin over time.
It makes me sad to think of the same people still there. Doing the same thing until they’re gone.
New Orleans is kind of an overrated place and a bit of a trap.

You have to live in SOME bubble
Why not have it be a FUN bubble?
Don't try so hard, 18 to 65 flies by so fast
Nobody will remember that you went to Telluride for MG, or moved to Atlanta for a bank job....
But maybe a friend or two decades later will remember camping out with you on the neutral ground, or sharing a purple drink in the FQ, or that king cake you brought to their family function...
New Orleans is very much a "you either get it or you don't" town
If you don't get it, cool, not a problem
If you do, you can't see yourself anywhere else
Happy Mardi Gras

I agree. I’ve gone more times than I could count so I’m over it as well. If people enjoy it, then hey, go have fun. I have zero issue with that

This is a pathetic take considering whatever you’re doing right now. It seems like some sort of cope. You’re sad that people are outside dancing and drinking and living up their one life while you post on a message board from your sofa?
Come back whenever you want!

A little bit, yea.
Those lgd and french quarter lifers who do the same thing on repeat. Dunno. Felt and feels sad.
And a ton of them were not supremely original people - just cribbing a certain persona to make their own.
This is not an anti-party screed. Hell, relocate and learn how to party in different places.
I just know a ton of folks from back that way who are kinda losers, and just drink and “dance” every weekend.
Not sure that hedonistic hamster wheel is best approach to life when u only have one crack at this thing. I touch on these points because it’s something I feel i was a part of and/or adjacent to for some time.
Not on couch, btw. I live In wasatch mountains. To be on a couch is a sin here.
Anyway, all the best to all of you.

I like your post and am being a little sarcastic here….
But those things don’t sound like the lifelong incredible memories that you are making them out to be. Sounds like normal life… one has friends, family, and random encounters/experiences…. Some good, some bad, some memorable, some forgettable ... Whether you attend MG or not.

Your skiing example… I absolutely 100% would cherish more and remember more a ski trip memory with my family than I would the random things/memories you pointed out.

I had an absolutely incredible time yesterday at the parade in Shreveport. A friend right off the parade route hosted, smoked ridiculous amounts of pork, ribs, and tenderloin. Hung out on the route with another great group while kids ran around like crazy. The parade went by caught some beads and cups. After the parade we went back to his house and ate some more. Drove home and was in bed at 9:00.
Sounds like it was a great day across the state. Good times for all.
