I feel the same as you but living in Portland OR - won’t they just declare them illegal in the next couple of years? Do you get your money back when they demand you hand them in?

Best statement on this was posted here a few weeks ago. Something to the effect of: "If someone is rushing to buy a gun or ammo now they are unprepared in life."
Well, it's not exactly like the electricity going out or a storm hitting (which happens routinely in some places) and not being prepared for a pretty routine occurrence. This is the first time in my life when I seen some places in America appear completely lawless with little to no police presence to stop it.
People in the gun business must be racking up the $$$ though.

never said it did. No one is questioning your masculinity, chill.
My point is, no one ever cares for anything till they need it. Guns, insurance, religion, law enforcement, etc. Some people don't seem to appreciate them till they need them.

I’ve dropped 10k on guns the last two weeks.
Just because... ya know.

Why do you not like guns?
I’ll answer this because I’m in the same boat as the OP.
I wasn’t raised around guns. Parents never had any guns. My dad was never a hunter. Neither am I.
I have two children. One rambunctious little boy and having a gun in the house makes me nervous.
With that said, I’d like to buy a handgun soon and if anyone has any advice they’d like to give me as far as how to handle my anxiety and how to handle having a gun in the house with children, I’m all ears.
I fall into the category of “explain it to me like I’m 5” with this subject because I have absolutely ZERO experience with guns and safety, to me, is the #1 priority.

Prepare thy anus. OT F250 truck nut baws are about to converge on you.

I was at Adventure Outdoors a couple of days ago, and they'd run out of bags. The line of people purchasing guns (which I was not doing, thankfully) was probably about 10-15 people long.

For what? I think my explanation was pretty straight forward.

Take a firearms safety course from a certified trainer, buy the right firearm, and buy a safe (doesn't have to be a big fancy one). I've been around firearms my whole life and am very comfortable with them, but I've learned some good things just taking the CCL courses. I have no kids, but I keep all my shite locked up.
As the old saying goes... the learning never stops.
I think once most people get exposure to the right firearm with proper instruction, the fear or uneasiness dissipates.

There are several threads on the Outdoor Board with gun regulars giving advice to first time purchasers. That's a really good place to start and you will get mainly sincere answers compared to the OT

Indeed it was. However, logic doesn't always sit well with the OT.

I wanted to get more into gun stocks, so when the stock market did it's "let's give all the money back" trick at the beginning of March, I couldn't wait to push my money in and get a bigger position.
Take a look at the performance of Smith & Wesson Brands, Vista Outdoors, and Sturm, Ruger since Mid-March.
