The water is WAAAAYY better off the Florida beaches than it is on the West Coast. The ONLY advantage on the West Coast is low humidity.

and very occasionally visit the florida style beaches

Beaches are for fat people who can barely waddle to their beach chair, let alone hike a mountain.
I don't know man. I live in Del Mar and we have mountains at our beaches with nothing that you are pissing and moaning about. We got our share of fricked up everything else, but shitty flat hot beaches ain't one of them.

Mountains trump Beach.
Mountain views, low humidity, hiking, camping.
Beach is boring and disgusting.
I'm the exact opposite. Mountains do very little for me. It's not my idea of fun. Give me the beach anyday.

I can't argue with the beauty of the mountains, but looking out on the water as far as the eye can see is pretty magical, as well. I personally love the beach. Hard to beat plopping yourself on a beach chair and just listening to the waves. It calms my soul, and it's a vacation that I don't need a vacation after. It's genuinely relaxing to me.
Plus, I loathe being cold. Skiing/hiking are both awesome...until you stop moving.

The problem with beaches is they are generally too crowded.

I definitely have the Anakin feeling about beaches, sand is awful. It’s one of those places it’s nice to look at from a non sandy spot for a few minutes and then move on. I hate beach vacations for the most part. My family likes them though, so I will suffer through it with a smile.

Swimming in the ocean is one of life’s great gifts.

When people are at home they don't say "hey, let's turn off the air conditioning, sit in a sauna, shine heat lamps in our face, glop on a bunch of grease, throw sand all over our bodies/shoes/vehicle, spray soda all over our bodies to assimilate that sticky ocean water feel, invite a bunch of seagulls into the kitchen to battle us for every scrap of food, turn some giant fans on 50mph blowing stuff everywhere" etc.
I always always like the IDEA of going to the beach better than going to the beach.
I like that atmosphere of beachside bars and restaurants and that kind of vibe.
Kinda don't like the actual beach at times for the reasons you actually listed. Especially sand. I fricking hate sand

Beach is a great place to go in the evening, set up a campfire and relax. That's about the extent of my interest.

Location doesn’t really matter.. unless it’s one of those times you just want to get away from everything, how much fun you have on vacation to the beach depends on the group of people you party with
I can have a blast with my group, so we tend to have a good time no matter where we go

everyone keeps saying this....why? not like you are sleeping in it?
I personally enjoy both the mountains and the beach. both are awesome if you are the kind of person that can have fun.
i think many of yall are just going without friends or something.
hard to beat watching the kids build sand castles, boogie board or throw the football in the sand while you have a cold beer chillin in the water.
or throwing the football or a water ball while drinking beer in the water on a calm day.
offshore fishing is awesome, water sports are awesome, riding go karts at night is awesome, taking the kids crab hunting at night is awesome.
lounging around reading while sipping a cold drink is awesome. morning runs on the beach, early morning coffee on the balcony and a big breakfast are awesome. bbqing or eating seafood in the afternoon is awesome.
how in the frick can you not like the beach. good restruants, plenty of entertainment and plenty of oppurtunity to relax.
i could make a list of reasons why the mountains in the summer and even winter are awesome too.
some of you sound like miserable people with the i hate the beaches or i hate sand BS. god forbid you relax and get a little dirty. and for gods sake....go in the water some and move around. Maybe some of yall are just fat and poor and thats why it sucks for yall. go get a 5k SF penthouse at tourquise place and be around a better class of people and come back and tell me it sucks or better yet... go to navarre, seaside, rosemary and tell me it sucks.
the beach and mountains are awesome

Yep, shite is awful. I don't care how much I wash off it'll be in the crack of my arse, in the vehicles and in the bed that night.

Beach is very relative .
There is Fourchon Beach, then there is Bakers Bay in the Bahamas.
One, no thanks; the other, “yep”

It is the herpes of the earth. It sticks to you, gets on your chair and in your cooler and on all of your shite, its in your sandals or shoes, and it does not go away.
You take your sandals out of the closet for the following year's beach trip and there is still sand in that shite even after being hosed off.

You can do that a hundred places outside of the beach. Many more scenic.
