I leave long meaningless messages on my friends phones just to annoy them for missing my calls
In reality, unless it’s an emergency messages are unnecessary.

The only exception to this is if you can't pickup, but in general, I think a call warrants a return call, not a text.
True, a missed call if I am in a meeting or situation that I can't answer always gets a call back.

You sound like a self important douche. What, you want a voicemail or text saying "call me ASAP"? The fact that they called in the first place makes it obvious they need to talk to you.

Don't be that guy. Leave a message.
nowadays, everything has caller id,so you damn well know if i called or not.

If I don’t recognize the number- No message no return call. That’s set in stone .
If It’s friends or family I’d return it . Or send the standard “ hey did you need something “ text.

I do this unless it's a North Texas area code. Can't risk it being a buyer with a new number or a number I don't have saved yet.
I still have an LA area code so any 318, 225, 504,337, 985 gets ignored since it's spam.

I’d rather a text or email anyway. If we must speak, don’t bother leaving a VM. Send a text saying why we must speak.

It's a personal pet peeve of mine when I call someone and I get a message a few seconds later along the lines of "whats up."
I'm on calls or video conferences intermittently throughout my workday... I can multitask and text/post up a storm, but it's stressful to commit to a voice conversation when 99% of the time, it's unnecessary.
Unless you're an out-of-town friend/relative and we're catching up or it's something too long to explain via text, calls are not warranted.

I disagree on your stipulation of when calls are warranted, but it's your opinion.
My friends and family are pretty good about saving calls for important matters. I rarely get a call from a friend asking what's up or how I'm doing unless something has happened.
We will call one another if one of us is driving though. I also have one friend who just legitimately hates phone calls. Even for important stuff, if any of us call her instead of texting, she'll always ask, "Why are you calling instead of texting?"

If you see you have a missed call from me that should be a message that I have to tell/ask you something.
The worst is when someone calls me and I miss the call, and I call them back a minute later and they don't answer.

I would NEVER ask about why someone's calling vs texting-
I'm not rude about it.
I talk to my mom every morning on the phone and call my grandparents ~weekly.
I'm just of the opinion that if a text would suffice, use it. Just like if it's something that can be accomplished by memo/email, don't hold a meeting.

I 100% never answer if it's a number I don't recognize. Better leave a voicemail if you need me.

If someone in my contacts calls me I answer the phone. If I can't answer I'll let them quickly know I'll get back to them, it's not that hard.

I find it much more annoying when someone calls, you call them back seconds later, and they don't answer.
