I have to cut mine today which isn't too bad. My grandparents have over two acres and my father as an acre I keep up as well. I don't mind cutting any of it. Whoever invented the weed eater should burn in hell though.

old reel mowers

They still make those. Our first house had a tiny yard so I used one, this was only 15 years ago. I loved the quietness when mowing.

What the hell is "cutting grass?"
Is that a euphamism for some gay shite?
Then don't tell me what it is?

Damn, my grandma had one at her house that I had to use when I cut her grass. That sucked!

But I looked sexy cutting it...

Yep, growing up as a kid in the 50's and 60's saw me cutting grass with one of those reel mowers more times than I care to really think about.

Our neighbor had huge magnolia trees right on the property line and those damn cones they dropped would stop that reel in a heartbeat----so first thing to do was pick up all those cones before cutting grass.

If I remember right, I was about 14 when one of my uncles bought a new mower and gave me his old 3 HP mower----game changer.

Cut my grandfather's grass with one of these from the time I was old enough to cut grass until he got too old to live alone and sold his house.

Helped a neighbor (years ago) swap out the transmission in one about that age.

You could hold it in one hand. But the bolt locations required 3 hands to install.

The transmission might have weighed 30 pounds and was about the size of a gallon of milk.

In my early teens my mom would buy these cheap myself-propelled push mowers. Between my grandparents and us we had nearly two acres. Needless to say I was pissed about cutting the grass before cutting the grass. Bright and early I’d be out there pulling on the cord over and over and over to no avail. When I moved out, there were at least three mowers in the woods from me slinging them back there because the POS wouldn’t start after, what seemed like, hundreds of pulls.

Holy cow hangover. We had one growing up...you old. This is only the second one I've ever seen.

Well, I’m 58, but I was a kid in the 70’s and remember them in the early 70’s…

A neighbor had one and the thing would never start, and I remember him constantly winding the thing and cursing it out…
