re: I didn’t know people were using different methods to hide their license plate from cameras

Should realize they can do a make/model search on partial plates. Shouldn’t be that hard to pick the red sedan out of the list of ten.

Do you truly believe someone is going to do a search to try and identify a possible red light or speed trap violator? Not only are they required to provide evidence showing the violation, now they'd have to prove the search resulted in a correct match.

If you’re caught with a switched plate, your car is impounded. It’s almost as costly as a DUI.

I like here on the Northshore when the state police set up roadblocks on Sunday mornings for the express intent to nail people for inspection stickers which of course leads to looking for other things whether they be insurance, license tags faulty tail lights or possible suspended licenses.
All those things are important, but really it is an attempt at tax collection and fund raising through "other" means

I love seeing this because it lets me know who the poor people are.

1 and 3 will land you in trouble for sure. 1 is some hitman-level shite.
2 is perfect. I may do it to cover up my registration sticker when it expires

I was in Colorado and wondered how the express lanes see the tags covered in snow.
In WI they can ticket you for an obscured plate. I'd assume CO and other states are the same.
I've never heard of them enforcing it in my area other than using it as an excuse to stop someone they want to harass.

My wife got two separate tickets on two different New Orleans streets 6 minutes apart for going 24 in a 20.
With kids that go to 2 different uptown schools its impossible not to get them. Plus it almost feels like her car idles at 20. We just know not to park on New Orleans streets at this point.

I do the same. But if you ever park in a city that you have one, they can boot you.
Amass a bunch of camera tickets
Wait until final notice is received
Go to auto notary and claim your license plate was stolen
Get new license plate
The boot people have no idea you're a camera ticket criminal mastermind
Sleep well at night knowing you beat the system.

The dead leaf could be a plausible excuse.
I mean, correct me if I'm wrong but the registration has a car model, color, and year, and there are only 10 possible numbers that last one could be...so would be quite easy to figure out who that is.

Neither the camera ticket company nor the police officer who signs off on the "ticket" are going to do that much leg work to figure out who's vehicle it is.

I just never pay red light camera tickets so that’s also an easy way to not worry about it
What about toll roads? Got one in the mail the other day from when we were in Florida last month. My gut tells me I can just trash it and there's nothing they can do about it.

Sorta, but no, a switched plate does not in itself equal impounding a car. And it is a traffic ticket, not remotely the cost of a DUI. Your internets attorney degree is not quality, baw.
But that's not what we're talking about, is it? We're talking about a leaf covering part of your plate.

In Kentucky, our plates either read "ABC 123" or "A1B 234". I think they can still find you even if you hide the last three digits. I would be more inclined to hide the first three digits/letters. That said, I had an old plate that had some of the paint peeling off, and was pulled over under the guise of speeding (Cop was tailing me, high beams on - I switched lanes to let him pass, but he would switch lanes behind me. He followed me for 5.5 miles before stopping me). Cop tells me that he was trying to read my plates, while trying to use the "speeding card". I did not receive a ticket, but in Kentucky, they will pull you over if they see something weird.
Also, I have driven in states where they had cameras. I would be toast if they actually worked, especially speed cameras.
