So, I suggest to my wife about watching some more funny shows soon in light of the gloom and doom. We discuss standup and during this, I mention Steve Harvey (came to mind after that commercial). Well, low and behold, my ad feeds now have Steve Harvey items all over them.

That is blatant as frick.......I believe the conspiracies now. Seriously.

Don’t cross swords with me. People here hate you and I’ve steered clear because I hadn’t experienced anything negative from you.

Dumbass was uncalled for.

And, marketing is not listening on idle conversations.

They absolutely listen. But it's not inherently evil or anything. They just want big data to drive targeted marketing.

Maybe not intentionally, yet.

The problem is the power of gives these companies. Big data is insanely valuable and yet untaxed atm. Besides that, all of these tech companies siphon all of your information and it's easier than ever. Someone with truly malicious intent could really screw a lot of people if they get access to the right things.

That said, the value these products add to our life has people lining up for them. I have 5 echoes in my house, primarily use Google products for my personal stuff.

I have MS, I've gone to the doctor and low and behold when I leave I have ads for MS meds. I also have my Mom living with me, I now get ads for senior housing. They must know I want her to leave. LOL.

Do your phones have the jack to plug in external audio? If so get some cheapy headphones/ear phones with mic but cut the cord below the mic or even just past the plugin so no cord dangling. Phone switches into audio jack mode but then lacks the ability to send/receive audio.

There's probably already phone cases/covers with some sort of slide cover for the camera lenses too if you want to get completely paranoid about hijacking the camera to spy.

That's a conspiracy? You didn't realize they use your info for ads? I didn't think they hid that from people. Wasn't there a legal case where Alexa recordings or some such were subpoenaed in a domestic abuse case a few years ago?

People voluntarily put taps on themselves 30 years ago? Alexa and the like is not worth the trade off.

?? A couple of years ago, I was taking care of my sisters dog while she was out of town and had the TV on and all of the sudden I heard "How may I help you" or something like that. I was like what the hell? Come to find out, someone on the TV said "OK" and her Google home device picked it up. I went and unplugged it.

The cameras scan items as well. I was working out yesterday with a specific type of kettle bell yesterday and was using my phone as a clock so it was pointed at me. Low and behold, yesterday while I was looking at Instagram there was a very similar kettle bell being advertised.

I don't freak out about it but I do feel like it's unfair because they act like it doesn't happen. If I truly had an issue I would get rid of my phone and go live in the mountains.
