Let me put you on to something. My AC guy is an engineer by trade and recommended going with a 20x30x5 pleated filter. He said you don't have to change them but once a year. With this filter you get about 5 times the surface area for filtering which translates to less restriction at the intake. On month 3 so far and am happy with it.

My A/C guy comes every year in March/April and cleans the outside and inside coils. I think its around $160.. I feel its worth it for optimization of the unit.
I had a unit go out in August one year and spent 3 weeks without AC. frick THAT shite!!!!

What is the easy way to clean the bathroom inside coils?
Go to a HVAC wholesaler and ask for indoor coil cleaner. Spray it in then rinse out.

My damn A/C condenser unit was damn near plugged.
About 5 years ago my sister-in-law called to say her central A/C wasn't putting out cold air and I offered to come by to look.
Even though I'm not an A/C guy, I do know a few things to look for and decided to go outside and look at the condition of the condensor. That is as far as I had to go to find the problem.
At the time, she had 7 dogs, all long haired types and they loved being around that area of the yard during the day since it was shaded.
I had to remove all the sheetmetal from around the coils and got a few cans of the coil cleaner to spray on it after I used a stiff bristled nylon brush and shopvac to remove enough hair to load up a kitchen garbage bag.
After I sprayed it and hit it with the nylon brush then hosed it off, it worked fine.

I don't look forward to footing that bill. My unit is old and it is only a matter of time. Good thing is I have four window units and my dad has four window units we bought before IDA so when it does, I will be prepared.

The old fashioned central HVAC system is becoming a dinosaur. Mini split systems with multiple heads are the future.

Still not clear ? You originally said base rates had doubled- that’s a 100% increase ! 7 to 8 cents is about a 14.7% increase ! 7 to 10 is about a 40% but not for all months. Sounds like for 3000k kwhrs is about 20 % maybe ! I don’t ever remember base rates ever increasing more than about 10% over several years. The average base rate for most of this country is over 10 cents ! Where in Texas or Louisiana are you talking about ? The rates in this part of the country are some of the lowest in the Entire Nation ! Sorry, but Making statements like that is exactly how falsehoods get folks rilled up !

Pampas grass isn't good either. The little white flurry thingy that grows on top of em, sheds like a mfer.

You need to calm down. Cleco does the rate increases in the summer. It’s not a “falsehood”. You’re also assuming people only do 3000 in your example, people can easily get a much larger bill who use large amounts of energy over 1500. Last year it went from six cent range to 11 cents when over 1500. So yes people will be bitching about their bills over next few months

Who needs to calm down when they make a statement that” their electric rates doubled” ? I’m just tired of all the stupid -false statements that are currently made that have virtually everyone madd at the absolute wrong things ! Just state the facts and let people make their own minds up on what’s going on. Gas prices and basic energy prices Have Sky-Rocketed due primarily to this Administrations Policies and Decisions ! Keep the Facts straights and we will all be better for it !

For many years I cleaned my A/C coils using a garden sprayer and mixed kitchen soap and water. I would wash off the coils with just water from the hose, being careful to always spray straight on to not bend the thin fins on the coils.
Then I would spray the coils good with the soapy solution, let is soak a little while before washing the soap off.
Job completed.
Then I talked with a guy that did A/C work and he said the only way to really clean the coils is to use Coil Cleaner. So about 20 years ago, I bought a gallon from an A/C supply place for about $25. I mixed it about 1/2 strength because it is some strong stuff and instructions said to be sure to wash it off really good.
I sprayed one side with a good covering. This took about 20 seconds. By the then the first area had started "foaming" to remove the dirt. I think instruction said to let it soak 3 to 5 minutes. I after 3 minutes I started washing it off. I think I spayed it a second time because it foamed so much removing dirt, and it only foamed a little bit. I reapeated on all sides.
Wow..... what a difference it made inside the house. It made the house feel way better. This was probably due to lower humidity due to the A/C cooling better.
Another short story.
I bought a small camping trailer a few years ago. The A/C worked when I bought it. But a month later, the A/C would trip after running a little while. The A/C coils were very dirty. After I cleaned them.... A/C ran good.

Be careful with that stuff, it's corrosive and WILL shorten the life of your condenser coils if you apply it too heavily / too often.

Your unit is actively running roughly 10 hours each day?
Yup. 435hrs total for last July.
Yes. A/C is in hood working order and sized correctly. Insulation in attic good.
No insulation under the house and I know there is some leakage.
Doesn't help someone works from home. Stays around 72-75 in the house.
