They suck to drive, torque band is weak, they sound like shite, and they go kaput every 60-80K miles (30K if Nissan). Fuel savings are minimal in comparison. Are manufacturing costs really that low in comparison to a normal gearbox?

I really hope the market dictates the end of these shitboxes, but ultimately the average car consumer is too naïve to realize how much the CVT sucks arse and will continue to buy.

You've never had the pleasure of having a Jeep Liberty, awful ride...rented from Enterprise.

I don't know how you can have massive of steps down from the Grand Cherokee.

I'd prefer an MTX anyday but subaru's CVT is quite good and reliable. It would be much better w/out fake shift points.

That's because it's a Dodge Caliber in disguise.

General vehicle comments rarely apply to Toyota. If a Toyota doesn't get to 200,000 it's a rare event.

My 2009 Nissan has over 130,000 miles and never had a problem

My biggest complaint is that it gets worse fuel economy than a similar Toyota or Honda. I'm only getting about 27 mpg now, my old Civic got about 35 mpg.

Wasn't used when I bought it

ETA: My point is that CVTs got a bad rep because of the shitty Nissan ones from a decade ago. Lots of cars are using CVT with no issues.

A dodge caliber saved my life in Kansas City a few years back, whatever year it was first in production. 2012 ish.

Dont talk shite about the Caliber.

I'm not havin' it.

There isn't one Nissan/Infiniti vehicle I would own, GTR included.

This is the pinnacle of stupidity. If you're going to do a CVT, just do it. Why add wear and tear by jerking and lashing it to "fake" a shift point?"

Cause stupid people complained about their "broken" CVTs.

I don't like them either. I drive a MT now, but those are getting harder and harder to find.

Don't lets facts get in the way of a good hate fest based off of bare bones rentals that either aren't made anymore or underwent major platform changes.
