Absolutely incorrect. The entire premise of a cvt is to keep the RPMs in the best torque range.

As far as being weak; the Outback has a 3,500 LB towing capacity. A JK Wrangler has 1,500.

I bought a product from Range that plugs into the computer port on my Chevrolet 1500 that you leave in and it stops the AFM (Automatic Feul Management) from engaging and stopping it from swapping between 8 cylinders and 4. No real difference in fuel mileage.
Range
Appears to be for only a few makes, but any AFM deleter "should" stop the transmission from swapping back and forth, I would think.
Eta: It's been in ~8 months and it stays in 8 cyl mode.
