There is a ton of traffic over both of those bridges every day, especially during rush hour. With all of the logistics in Memphis, this will be noticed

It's like we can't ship gas by pipeline and now we can't ship it by truck.

Oof that’s gonna be a traffic reroute nightmare.

I guess they’ll go down 61 to the shitty 2 lane Helena bridge?

You want to see an epic cluster. This will be it. Old 55 Bridge can’t handle the traffic load.

Want to take a shot out how many other bridges across the country should be shut down immediately for similar reasons?

When I would go to the pile of debri, I would make sure to go faster than the speed limit. Bridges do not really bother me, but for some reason that one bothers me.

Depending on the nature of the crack, this could have been catastrophic. Or not.

It's usually pretty significant to shut down an interstate. That truss is probably full of fracture critical members.

The only bridges I’ve been on in the same league of sketchiness are the hwy 62 across the Ohio and 60 across the Mississippi in Cairo, Illinois. Both of those are probably worse

Thank God our $2 billion infrastructure funding bill has $1 billion of new trains in it. :eye roll:

Nothing says fixing bridges like completely sidestepping the issue and funding a pet project

I-20 west bound was shut down last week. Concrete fell off a small area in the downtown Monroe area. Traffic diverted to hwy 80. Took 3.5 hours to get to west Monroe and return.

It’s as bad as the old Greenville bridge was. If you ever have to stop on it, you can feel it sway back and forth. It’s unsettling

Bridge is only 47 years old.

The BR bridge is 53 years old, and considering the constant congestion and parking lot it becomes at rush hour, it’s only a matter of time before I’d imagine we are royally screwed.

The old Huey P cannot take that kind of traffic and would be super sketchy to traverse for any significant amount of time to serve as a viable alternative for I-10 traffic. I suppose you could use Sunshine temporarily if need be to divert, but getting there via LA1 would be an enormous mess going through one horse towns and an infrastructure woefully inadequate to deal with that kind of traffic. New Roads bridge, same same.

God help the people/businesses along EH Crump.

Turning onto that road will be a nightmare due to the diverted traffic

Is that whole set up on 55 that had been under construction for years finished yet???? I haven't been up there in 4 or 5 years.

But this is a huge deal. I-40 is a major east/west corridor for trucking. Downtown Memphis is about to be a real shitshow trafficwise

Now all that traffic will be diverted to the 55 bridge which was either built by the Romans or aliens, no one knows for sure

Got that right. That fricking bridge came over on the Mayflower.

As much as Memphis sucks, it’s better than when I lived in Illinois.
