I'm not referencing the OP. I'm referencing all the stupid shite that's been said after the OP like "you'd lose money in New Orleans if you only made 200k"

WITH THREE KIDS. I’ve said you can’t live comfortably there WITH THREE KIDS.

I don’t know why you keep leaving that off.

The question posed in the OP was where WOULD you live out of 4 options. I said not New Orleans because while one CAN live in New Orleans for that, it would be a much poorer quality of life than I’d want for my hypothetical family.

That’s all it boils down to. I want my family to have the same or better quality of life I had growing up. Good schools, safe neighborhood, fully funded college education, vacations to Europe, exposure to music and theatre and dining. And I want to fund my retirement so I can quit working at 65 if I want. That’s my choice, and I don’t look down on people who want a different life for their families. But I can’t do that on $200k/yr in New Orleans.

Surely you jest. He’s said many times that he wouldn’t do it because he values education and he’d have to make too many sacrifices to be able to give his children the life that he wants.

I said before, you can live in the ghetto and send your kids to public school easily on 200k. No one wants that.

Stuart Hall is basically a male elementary version of Sacred Heart and those two are by far the most expensive. Other feeder schools are St Catherine, St Dominic, St Pius etc and they are all closer to 5500. And Christian Brothers is like 8500 last time I looked.
You should have no problem having a 3 kids in school at the same time and able to afford anything you need. Now you aren’t going to be going on European vacations every year but there are plenty of families doing quite fine in the OPs scenario.
I will agree that property values have really went up in the last 5 years so for someone moving here it may be more difficult to find nice housing vs someone already living here.

New Orleans has a larger poor population than the cities that you are comparing it to. If you look at average home prices in New Orleans, you’d think that you could go out and buy an average home for 200k. No one that I know would want to live in the location of a 200k home in New Orleans.

It’s not absurd to say $200k isn’t enough to live comfortably in New Orleans.
Yes, it is. I just left New Orleans after 25 years and am intimately knowledgeable about both the schooling and real estate there.

Your definition of comfortable is fricked. You might not want the lifestyle, but $200k allows a perfectly comfortable lifestyle.

This has exactly zero effect on cost of living index, and if it did it would drive prices of everything down.

According to COL index it is 1% higher than the national average

Alright, it sounds like you would know more than I on this subject then. So how much would tuition for 3 kids roughly be and where would one purchase a home in New Orleans to fit a family of 5?

So the housing costs are higher than the national average despite a huge inventory of shitholes in garbage neighborhoods pulling the average way down.

Doesn’t that suggest that decent homes in desirable locations would be well above the average?

Amazing at the # of folks in Louisiana making well over 200K. Why do people leave with all the high paying jobs?

. I take issue with you disagreeing in all of your following posts that 200k is not enough to live there.

It is difficult for a family of 4/5 to live comfortable in a 2000-3000 sq ft house in considerably safe areaa, send all 2/3 kids to private schools in Orleans Parish on $200k. Why is that hard to understand?

Yes, if you want to live in Hollygrove, Central City, 9th Ward, etc, I guess you could swing it.

Average price for Catholic School for this school year was $9,800. Sacred Hart is 18K per year, next closest was 12K. They were the only two over 10k/year

Is housing not included in the cost of living index? Huge portions of the city are basically uninhabitable, but homes still sell there and drive down the average price of homes. As I said earlier, the average home price in a safe and desirable neighborhood is 400k+ especially when you’re looking at 4 bedroom places.
