$200k a year with 3 kids isn’t enough for New Orleans whenever you factor in private tuition.

As long as they aren't taking 5 vacations a year and eating out every other night this is just not true.

I have one kid in private school in BR and tuition, summer camp and aftercare runs about 14k. Nola is probably more expensive but that's 42k after taxes for 3 before you even start talking about anything else. Easily about 1/3 of 200k (net) is gone before you start considering other expenses. Now you have a family of 5 in an expensive city with like 90k to spare. Good luck

Ok, I'm looking at things a little different I guess.
For grades 1-7 they will be paying between $4500 and $5,000 a year on tuition.

There are also charter and magnet schools to consider in Nola and Jefferson Parish and yes the northshore has good free schools.

Would mom or someone else be able to help out during the summer? Does everyone have to send there kids to after care every day?

Once the oldest kid is 15 they can start watching the others during the summer some weeks.

I didn't read the whole thread so sorry if I'm responding about things already covered.

I think OP considered the cities only (not burbs) and I'd choose BR because the money would go further there. That's not exactly well off in Nola for a family of 5 and I wouldn't want to live in Shreveport (Bossier not included) and definitely not Alexandria

Lol, only if you’re sending your kids to Catholic school. Trinity, St. George, et al are well over $10k.

Well of course. It's insane to pay those kind of prices.
I know non catholic folks who send their kids to catholic schools so it's no big deal.

Agreed. I’m not Catholic and would have zero qualms about sending a son to Jesuit. But there are a lot of people who don’t want a Catholic or single sex education which wipes out everything decent below $15k in New Orleans.
