And a choice of 3 cities (i realize 97 percent of the OT makes 2 million, but pretend):

You have 3 children, ages 3 to 14. Again, 200k.

Will you take the job in:

A) Alexandria
B) Shreveport
C) Baton Rouge
D) New Orleans

And why? What city is best for a family of 5 (wife/partner included)?

*Lafayette and Lake Charles are out.

$200k a year or just $200k?

Because if it’s the latter I’d just pass on the money.

Is your wife dead. Or unemployed?

The answer between those 4 is New Orleans. How is this a question.

In that case I guess Baton Rouge. $200k a year with 3 kids isn’t enough for New Orleans whenever you factor in private tuition.

And it would take a lot more than $200k a year for me to live in Shreveport or Alexandria. A LOT more.

I'd probably choose BR over Nola for the same reason. That's a really nice income in BR. I wouldn't live in Alexandria or Shreveport (unless Bossier is included in this)

You're right, it'd only put you in the top 5% of earners.

But it's enough for BR where you have to send kids to private school as well? 200k is more than enough. Will you live in a mansion on St. Charles....probably not. But can you send your kids to almost any private school if you budgeted correctly....yes. And the average school wouldn't even require that much of a budget at 200k.
