I think I’d just shoot everyone I don’t recognize just to be safe.

You’re only shot would be to get as far away from any city as possible. They would be absolute hell. The thugs would take over at first then all out wars would break out

True but that’s the first place help will come

Probably more likely to get murdered in a city but maybe more likely to find medicine you need as an example

In the scenario you meation, it’s a time period of decades before you have the infrastructure back to allow the disconnected society we have today.

It’ll take years just to get back to ~1920s level of quality of life.

My building would still be heated (natural gas) so on that point I'm good.

Wrong.....that gas coming to your building gets its gas from a high pressure line...if the power goes out all of the gas coming on those high pressure lines would stop and then no more gas for cities.

The time of the year would determine how long it would take to empty those lines. During winter, maybe a few hours just due to the demand. Summer might last a day or so because there is not much demand.

Help won’t be coming.

Everyone is just as fricked as you.

Maybe in the aftermath.....but even then it’s a long arse shot.

The cities will eat themselves. You have to get out, even by foot if need be.

Once people realize help isn’t coming and the lights aren’t coming back on, civilization gets thrown out the window for the sake of survival mode. You don’t want to be in the center of that malestrom.

The plot is an EMP is detonated over mainland US. Entire country instantly without all electronics. We are talking ALL electronics. Phones, modern cars, clocks, every single thing with a circuit board.

That's about as realistic as the zombie apocalypse

Why don't they make all new vehicles with Faraday cages in the hood, and bury all electric and phone/cable lines? That would make an EMP attack simply annoying instead of catastrophic.

I'm dead. In fact, I'm so dead that it's not even worth discussing survival.

I live in downtown Baltimore and work in downtown DC.

There is not and will never be an EMP with this type of capability. Anything not running at the time would simply need to restart and be fine for the most part.

Also, NO EMP could reach that far and one that might be built in the future big enough to do it, would never get into the middle of our country.

An EMP over NYC or DC would do a lot of EMT though and take months/years to recover

My husband's British cars will suddenly have value (because they're from the 1960s). He might have to get them running again, though.
