This was also some shite luck.

A) Stayed off the Yucatan to be somewhat organized entering the Gulf.

B) Finds the right window where it isnt getting shear and getting help from the upper levels.

I dont care if the populations are low, yet another RI into the coast aint going to help the insurance situation.

Insurance situation

Read that Florida is in the same situation as Louisiana. Definitely not a good thing for insurance rates.

My best friend lives in Maitland NE of Orlando and he may be somewhat safe there, his favorite destination is Cedar Key and it looks like a very bleak situation there.

Reconnaissance aircraft now finding winds in the ballpark of 105-110 mph in the eastern eyewall of Hurricane #Idalia. The storm's core structure continues to mature on radar imagery as rapid strengthening continues.

Wife has some people in Tallahassee and Clearwater though.

Unfortunately, it is popping off as expected tonight. This easily has room to run to a 4.

I don’t understand why the NHC dropped their forecast a tad. Stuff like that makes some people think it won’t be that bad.

Storms like this are so hard to forecast intensity. I hope this thing doesn’t bomb out and wobble to the wrong place.

important to note re:wobbling

When monitoring Idalia's center track, it's important to follow the long-term motion as opposed to individual wobbles.

The thick black line roughly traces the center of the eye per radar over the last few hours. There's some NW & NE wobbles, but the long-term motion is NNE.

Whoa! Seas up to 34 feet now. And that is the average of the highest one-third of the waves.

Individual waves can be nearly twice that height (or 60+ feet in this case!)

They didnt. Its just the forecast points missed the max. The discussion says as much.

Not that Id expect a lay person to read every discussion. This absolutely gets in the way of messaging.
