All of these hurricanes are covered with a liberal agenda behind them. Their hyperbole is sickening.

Dear Lord. How confirmed is this?

Haha. The Weather Channel had her on this afternoon saying we’ve never seen a storm like this.

Police confirmed and Fox reporting on it. Multiple fatalities.

Unfortunately, verified EDIT: with a senior based community - though the official number is not known yet. The Gulf Coast is going to get the majority of the coverage/discussion, but the Treasure Coast got wrecked today with the tornadoes too.

Isn’t that the place with all the renewable energy, and of so how expensive will it be to replace all of that?
No clue of the costs, but before I moved here it was hit directly by Ian for hours. They had sustained winds of 90mph and gusts in the 140s and never took any real damage. They didn’t even lose internet.
From the local FB groups, pool cages were about the only thing lost outside of some shingles.

But we’re talking about a difference of a Cat 2 to a Trop Storm. Is there some kind of time element to change the max sustained winds, thus the Cat rating? I don’t think there’s anything nefarious to it just the difference is interesting to me, but I am definitely a noob at this stuff
They just historically move slow to lower the estimates when it’s weakening - presumably due to some sort of sampling error concern.
They also use radar data as the storm crosses over land to estimate winds. Radar velocity measures gusts, but it can still be helpful and correlated decently well to ground observations with a little math.
For example, Milton crossed right over KTBW radar station, so the measurements there are closer to the ground than they typically are from other land falling storms. Radar is indicating 105-110 mph gusts near the station, and a station near MacDill Air Force Base just reported a 91 mph gust on land.
Still not sustained cat 2 winds though, to your point.

Naples Bay surge peaked at 5.78 feet over normal predicted tide. It was 4.7 feet for Helene.
Fort Myers surge is currently 5.03 feet over normal predicted tide. It was 5.6 feet for Helene.
And Manatee River is flooding

Well it's pretty obvious that their climate change narrative is behind this hysterical coverage.
TWC has been like that for storms since before anyone gave a shite about climate change. Hyping the weather has been their thing forever.
I’m not saying they’re unbiased or anything, but their hysteria doesn’t prove anything IMO

It's like people expect the weather channel to be some kinda non profit organization just because their name.

Those saying "oh look they were exaggerating wind speeds again" will want to look at the aftermath on Siesta Key tomorrow am.

Not that it’s a whole lot better, but this:

Guthrie said about 125 homes were destroyed statewide, mostly mobile homes in senior communities.

Well they were explicit rotation the police in Port St Lucie told them that an entire senior community of 125 mobile homes was completely destroyed and that there were multiple fatalities from a tornado. Over 120 tornadoes have been confirmed I. the state today.

Went to go make sure there wasn’t any flooding near my AC unit at the condo I live at. Funny thing about it, it’s in a long, straight alleyway that is almost perfectly aligned east to west. lol I almost wanted to open my jacket and see if I could fly away. It’s essentially a long arse wind tunnel.
