Drama queen Justin Michaels is live on the Weather Channel talking about Orlando’s imminent doom. Speaking about the tornadoes in the spiral bands he said, “Tornadoes wrapped up in a hurricane. Truly the stuff of nightmares.”

Is there a reason why they dont put radar stations of the off shore rigs?

Cost prohibitive and kind of pointless. You can derive enough from satellite data to fill in oceanic gaps. Plus we have enough radar holes in the US that we don’t need to waste expensive radars on the Gulf that could fill radar gaps on land.

Probably cost and the likelihood that they'd get destroyed. We have radar holes in the US on land because these arseholes won't fund new ones. Gotta take care of those first, and I doubt they ever will.

Someone should build one that retracts into an armored hanger\room.

Like this but with the radar dome coming out instead of a nuke.

Sometimes storms are so strong that Radar doesn't penetrate the eyewall to get a good representation of the back side of the system.

There’s not a lot of attenuation with these 88d S bands. You can see on Key West radar there’s not a lot back there. At least not of any significant intensity and height.

Any navy radar techs that can chime in on maintaining radomes at sea?

Something a bit lighter... Thanks to FUBO (coupled with our VPN) we are able to watch the local coverage in Tampa and Orlando. WESH used to be the go-to and now looks more like a DEI centric CW station. Sweezey and the Toms were peak Orlando weather. For the locals, is there a preferred station like WESH was in the Aughts?

if you want to see how much the dry air is messing with Milton, look at the flight level wind field. Almost nothing to the SW. And really expanded out to the north and east.

Biden doing his little presser saying prices won’t be gouged and be stable when it comes to gas and flights

Except 20% and rising of stations are already out of gas and all the airports are closed

Thanks Joe

Oh wow he’s going in in trump lying about fema and $750

Jesus Christ bro this isn’t the time for campaign rhetoric

And he gives it over to Kamala on a zoom call that’s about 5 seconds behind audio and video. Who knows if this is even live ?

Haven’t read the thread but have y’all been keeping up with this meth head that’s riding the storm out in a 20 ft boat tied to a dock?
